Would antibiotics and Prednisone make a dog refuse to eat and drink?

Prednisone makes a dog much thirstier than usual, and usually hungrier, too. Most dogs on prednisone eat and drink much more than normal. Antibiotics can nauseate dogs, but if your dog is on prednisone and is not eating or especially drinking, she needs to see a vet ASAP, especially since she was running a fever.

The antibiotics may be making her nauseous. Let your vet know.

I agree with Karen.  When Nugget is on her 'roids she gets really thirsty and can stand at her water dish for a good minute at a time lapping it up.  They do make her hungrier, too.  She's been on antibiotics twice and they didn't effect her appetite.  I would call the vet and let them know you're concerned.  I think you really need to be concerned if they're not properly hydrated when they're on those medications.

Hope all goes well.

How come I always feel like I can relate to the dogs so well????????? Seriously i need to get my own support group! I agree with what everyone said.... I will say prednisone on a high enough dose can suppress the feeling of nausea.....but I am imaging if he is not eating or drinking the antibiotic is the culprit......as I know all to well...

I hope your baby feels better.
The vet said the meds may increase thirst and appetite but she isn't drinking. As for the food, she never gets people food so I know she isn't holding out for something better... she is trying to eat only the old food and is refusing the new. Kinda funny to watch her try to sort the kibble. I will call the vet, again. Thanks for the imput and suggestions. She is feeling a little better. She got up when she heard the school bus and walked down the driveway to meet the kids. It was a great moment.
