Has anyone had any experience with their pup getting bladder stones? My little 12 week old puppy had surgery to remove a bladder stone last night; it was an emergency because it was causing a blockage, she couldn't urinate and she was vomiting. Has anyone here had any experience with recovering from this type of surgery, dietary changes, and/or supplements in order to prevent the formation of new stones? Since the surgery was done just 8 hours ago, we do not yet have results on the stone. I know that different types stones will require different types of approaches but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about this. She has been dealing with a bladder infection for 2+ weeks now, which apparently either caused the stone or was caused by the stone. She's currently at the vet recovering and we should be picking her up this evening, in 4+ hours.

I may just be stressing myself out for nothing but it's so hard not to feel for my little pup tart when she's been feeling so crummy and now she'll be dealing with recovering from this surgery.  I will say, however, that I am so thankful that the stone has been taken out so that she can finally kick this bladder infection that has been cramping her style for weeks. Any thoughts based on past experiences would be greatly appreciated, since I think it would be nice to have both the opinion of her vet as well as the opinion of other doodle owners. :)

M.J. will truly appreciate it and sends hugs and licks!

Veronica, I'm sorry to hear that your puppy has had to have surgery and has this issue. I haven't heard of any other dogs here having this issue, although there have been some with crystals and various types of bladder issues. The lab results may shed some light on what caused this and how to prevent it in the future. In the meantime, I hope she has a restful night at home and a fast, uneventful recovery.

Here is a fact based veterinary article on bladder and kidney stones that may help shed some light on this, although as you said there are different types of stones and different treatments:

I am so sorry for you and your pup.  I hope she has a speedy recovery and you learn some tricks to help her not get any more.  You have contacted your breeder to let her know?

Thanks so much for the responses and concern! This afternoon we had to take M.J. back in to the vet because she was vomiting but x-rays and blood work came back just fine. We suspect she simply wasn't reacting well to the pain medication so it was switched. Currently the vet has changed her diet to the Royal Canin SO but I'm working on finding a healthy way of preventing stones and UTI via diet because the ingredients in that stuff are just garbage.

Thanks again Karen & Jackdoodle and Nancy, Ned, and Clancy!

I hope she is feeling better now!
