Bloody Vomit

My 14 month old mini-golden doodle, Darla, had to go to the emergency vet this morning at 4 a.m.

She vomited (just liquid)  in her crate and then proceeded to vomit again (3x's) a bloody mucus.

The vet did not find anything obvious.  Questioned as to whether she ate something toxic or garbage…nope..she is pretty good in the house.  I suspect she ate something out in the grass (we live in So. East Florida) and there are plenty of crazy critters in the grass which is very dense.  What a scare!

He gave her a shot to stop the vomiting and some fluids under her skin.  Suggested we give her 1/2 of a pepcid (otc) and keep a close watch on her.  

Question:  Has anyone else ever experienced bloody vomit?  What was the cause?  Did your dog recover without a problem?

Be sure to give the probiotics and antibiotics separately, at least two hours apart or more. You will also need to continue the probiotics for a few weeks after the meds are discontinued. I hope Darla feels better soon.

OMG My 13 month old Theo also had exactly the same yesterday night , we in up till 3 when i finally put him in crate to sleep after emergency clinic visit.

Vet gave him the nausea injection and fluids. Now from the morning we are suppose to give "sucralfate"every 8 hrs and later in the day bland diet ( cottage cheese& Sweet potato) nausea med & omeprazol

I wonder what cause this sudden vomiting episode :(

Darla is starting to show signs of recovery…this morning she actually wanted to go for a walk and she showed interest in chasing rabbits.  The only concern is she has not pooped since yesterday morning.  She has not eaten very much and it's just some rice and boiled chicken.  I am thinking I will eliminate the rice today and perhaps add a small amount of her Acana kibble to the boiled chicken.  

Thanks for all the support.  I do wish I knew exactly what caused the episode but I suspect if it happens again (god forbid) then my the vet will do more intensive testing.  

I am thankful for her progress and love her even more it that is possible!

I am glad Darla seems better. I wouldn't rush the kibble for a couple more days.

I was concerned because Darla did not move her bowels since yesterday a.m.  I thought the kibble might be a good  way to  get some bulk into her system.  She refused her breakfast today..scrambled egg white with boiled chicken and just less than 1/4 cup of kibble.  Thanks for your advice…I will keep a close watch on her…

Refusing scrambled egg (no reason not to use the yolk, BTW, that's where the nutrition is) and chicken may mean that her GI tract is still not feeling right. Keeping a close eye is a good thing.
