I wondered if anyone had a good oral hygiene agent. My puppy just turned 1 yr old, I brush her teeth almost everyday but her molars in the back are turning brown. Please let me know what you have used and what will help with her teeth.

Marcey, it is surprising that such a young dog has so much buildup already. I have 2 dogs - 5 and 4 years old. 3 cats - 17?, 8 and 3 ( I'm not sure about the cats because they are all rescues). My dogs teeth are in great shape and 2 of the cats are also good. The oldest cat has a disease that causes his own salava to cause plaque. Poor guy, his mouth used to get very sore and he could hardly eat. My animals all get a mix a dry kibble and home made food. The dogs get a big marrow bone every week (uncooked) that really helps to clean their teeth. I do not use raw hides or any of the other tarter treats. However, 2 years ago I started using a product called Healthy Mouth. It is a water additive. I was not a believer...thought it was ridiculous that something added to water could do anything. But I have found that the little bit of plaque that does start is easily removed from my dogs teeth. And while my cats will not let me brush, the oldest cats mouth health has improved greatly. Healthy Mouth also has some kind of gel paste that you can put on the teeth. I have never used it. There is some good information on the Internet about Healthy Mouth. I have to order it through my veterinary college because I buy a large container for all of my animals. While there is a dog and cat formulation, the only difference is apparently a flavour. They can both use either so I buy the big dog bottle.

All I can do is share with you what is working for me. And suggest that you do not become complacent with just allowing the problem to one that you don't investigate further. I personally would want to try to figure out what is causing this issue and to make sure I was satisfied with the answer.

Hope this helps!

I've tried Plaque Off, you sprinkle it over their food.  It kind of worked?  It definitely improved the bad breathe but I didn't really see a vast improvement on the tarter issue. I finished the bottle but won't reorder.  I have the same problem with one of my dogs, front teeth are white as day but the back are brown and ick!  I was told about this product from a local dog walking group and wondered if anyone here had tried it?  https://www.plaqueattackweb.com/  I'll definitely look into Healthy Mouth.  My doodle has a heart murmur so I have to be careful what she ingests.  Figured I start here then run everything by our vet, testimonials have a much bigger impact for me.  Thanks and good luck.
