Hello! I was thinking last night about Yeti and Phin having diarrhea and the occasional vomiting episode last night. They both have been doing well for about a week straight. They have been eating boiled chicken and rice 4 times a day. We recently started to wean Phin back to his kibble but Yeti is still only eating chicken and rice. I want to give his tummy a little extra time to heal Incase he really was experiencing a bought of gastritis again.

Anywho, back before they got sick neither were eating much. Not unusual for Yeti but I was worried for 4 month old Phin. I know it’s frowned upon by a lot of people, but we started added boiled chicken and sweet potato to entice them to eat. Phin literally gobbled it right up. He LOVED it. Yeti sometimes loved it and sometimes didn’t, depending on the day lol. My question is, could this be the reason for their tummy troubles? Too much protein? Now that Phin is starting kibble again, I want to know your guys’s thoughts on continuing to add a small amount (1/8 cup of chicken) to keep him liking his food.

I know its kind of disheartening but I love them both so much and thats why im trying so hard to understand whats going on. Phin and Yeti both get a vsl#3 every night.

I initially thought that chewing on hosta leaf's was what was causing their tummy troubles. Ive read that they arent poisonous to dogs, but can cause tummy upsets. Yeti has never chewed a stick or plants ever but when Phin came around he taught Yeti how fun sticks and plants are to chew. We stopped letting them outside in the back (where the hosta's are) and they started to feel a little better but im not sure if it wasnt a coincidence.

Well, maybe try switching Phin to Yeti's food; is he still on Simple Solutions?

Okay! Sounds fantastic! It’s with a try!!

I just checked, and the Simple actually has slightly more calories per cup than Core, so the feeding amounts would be roughly the same. You need to know that, because the feeding guidelines for Simple won't have puppy amounts, lol.

Hahahaha thank you so much! :) we will start him on that tomorrow and pray for a miracle :)

What is your stance on adding water to their food (be it kibble or chicken / sw potato)? I doubt it is, but could that possibly be contributing to loose stool?

Doubtful that would contribute to loose stool. There's not much difference to the body whether the water is added to the food or the dog just drinks water with his meal.

I suspected that was the case! I’ve been added water to his chicken and sweet potato to hopefully avoid a dehydration situation and wanted to make sure it wasn’t the wrong thing to be doing.
