Okay.  So, Dagny had an entropion repair 15 days ago.  The vet took her stitches out last night.  I have noticed this week that her healing eye looked a bit smaller - perhaps even puffy - and I brought this up at the vet appointment.  The vet, who was filling in for our regular, said that Dagny's eye looked healthy and that there wasn't any drainage.  She thought that perhaps the reason I felt the eye looked puffy was because the hair that had been shaved off around the eye for surgery had actually grown in quite a bit.  I wasn't entirely comfortable with this answer (especially because I had never seen this vet before), but I bought it.

Well, 24 hrs later, Dagny's squinting a lot with the healing eye.  The hair on her face on that side is wet.  My husband looked at her eye and said there's nothing visible coming out - no pussy stuff.  So, he thinks that the eye is just irritated because of the removal of the stitches.

Has anyone experienced this before?  What is the healing process like for an entropion repair?  I've found some threads about entropion on DK, but not anything that gave advice or talked about the healing experience.  I'm anxious and not sure if I want to rush to the vet tomorrow because my regular doctor is on vacation and I'm just not sure I trust someone else that doesn't know my dog.

Thank you!!

I cannot speak for veterinary post op care for an entropian repair. However as a Opthalmic tech (for humans) I can tell you that a patient recovering from such a procedure would be given ophthmic ointment to use for both the healing of the lid but also because the cornea needs to be protected from irritation which ointment would aid in. Mild irritation would result in a watery eye. A scatched cornea would be painful. Watch for discharge, swelling, redness. If you you see these, get back to the vet.

Thank you so much Karen!  I did see this post back in September, and can't believe I never responded!  Her eye was infected, but the vet said it wasn't significant and had me continue the ointment for another 7 days (she'd had it for 10 days post op).  We're still dealing with a lot of weepiness in the mornings.  It seems to me that over a month later, we'd be over that by now, but the vet keeps telling me that her eye looks good and healthy.  Oh well.  I was just hoping that the weeping would be over once her surgery happened, but maybe this is something we'll have to deal with forever...not sure.  Again, thanks for your advice!

Glad to hear it. It can't hurt to use some preservative free lubricating drops / artificial tears daily.
