I know this tooth is deeply embedded, and we may also need more area around this tooth and bone, so please share with me your experience and or advise if you have been in our shoes.
Hi Nancy, I took Brianna in for a checkup with the Alt. Vet last Friday. Behind the canine tooth is a small regrowth about the size of a small pimple or like what I would call a canker sore size lump. He thought it would be too small to biopsy. The paperwork always get sent to the Oncologist because they work pretty close together with her cancer. When the Oncologist reviewed his report, the office receptionist called and told me they want to schedule an appointment for a second biopsy through their Onc dentist......I was told in our original Onc. consultation that if a second biopsy was needed, they would be removing a much larger section...teeth and bone :( I am so sad about this.... my poor little girl. I don't know what to expect and I am scared but I need to still talk to them in length about all of the details. The dentist is only in on Thursdays and Fridays for the work and I will know more next week but thought I would get a head start with gathering as much info from anyone who has been through this........I think including the canine tooth can be very invasive because of the depth of this tooth.
Oh, Deb, I'm so sorry to hear this! I dont know anything about it, but I feel so bad for you & Bri. I would be scared, too. I hope you can get some answers. (((Hugs to you)))
Here is a relatively straightforward article on Plasmacytoma. If you need help in interpreting it I'll try to do that. Basically though it sounds very possible that surgery might well be curative. I'm sure the oncologist will tell you more. I hope you get good news and all goes well
Finally!! I got the low-down! NO second biopsy (yet) wait and watch. After the Onc. office called-I wanted more info....this has been killing me. No word for two and a half weeks on what she was prescribing and having us do....The Onc was out for the first week at a seminar, then went on vacation I guess....I called our vet during the first week when she was out ...he did the original Biopsy, to see if maybe he could get a message in to her and get something back...nothing! Ok, I took Brianna into him and had him look at this regrowth behind the tooth. He said it would be too small to biopsy (just like the alt vet said), but agreed there is something there, and could be a scar! O.K. now what? He called back yesterday that the Onc. finally called and they discussed the findings....there was a miscommunication with the Alt vet and report, and she had in Brianna's chart that any regrowth means second biopsy, and why she just wanted me to jump her into the dentist! Crums sake, I could have done just that and while she was on VACATION had my poor baby under the knife! Ok I am done venting, and I am taking this a much better now and thankful AGAIN it looks like we are going to be just fine!
Thank you Karen for all of your kindness and support! I am so hopeful too......funny, I will not notice the huge lump growing out of my own head, but will know if this little thing in Brianna's mouth changes +/- .001 of and inch...lol
