Lucy just turned one. Monday she started vomiting and would not eat or drink. We took her right into the vet, who did an x-ray and saw nothing. We thought we'd give her a little time and she was just getting worse so we took her to a different vet and he actually felt something in her - a blockage.
They recommended surgery so she had it right away. The best thing that could have happened was that they'd go in, remove the blockage, and close her back up. The worst was what actually happened. They had to take a foot and a half from her intestine - it had necrotized. It was black when it should have been pink.
Her recovery will be hard. Her biggest danger is going septic - I guess it could break open inside of her.
Turns out she had eaten a sock.
This is just such a sudden shock to us!!
Has anyone else been through this?

There have been lots of "sock eating Doodles" here on DK, but I don't recall that any had to have major portions of their intestines removed. I'm so sorry...you must be very worried....hoping for full recovery.
I am so sorry that you and Lucy are going through this. My Beowoof has a sock craving as well. I manage to keep all adult socks well out of reach but he will occasionally snag one of my 5 year old's. I worry about this constantly. He has always managed to vomit them back up, so far. I need to step up the vigilance on this.
Sending positive thoughts that Lucy heals quickly. Hugs to you both.
I am so sorry to hear this! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Lucy!
I was shocked when I saw your update. I've been thinking of Lucy often & I hope she is feeling better. Wishing and praying for a speedy recovery.
I've had not experience with this type of situation but I hope that Lucy is feeling better by now and has a complete recovery soon. How is she doing today?
