My Springer, Gordie, had surgery to repair a ruptured CCL back in August. He had a pain patch. After the prescribed amount of time we had our local vet remove it because it was stuck so completely on Gordie. They said they used ether to take the patch off. The fur where the patch was has never grown back! It looks pretty much like it did when the patch was removed. Will the fur ever grow back there?
How long has it been since the patch was removed. If they damaged the hair follicles it may not grow back. If they just pulled the hair out by the root, where it was attached to the patch there is a chance it will grow back in time. He's beautiful either way.
I agree...I hope Gordie's fur grows back, but even if it doesn't, he's still beautiful.
It took Jack's fur a long time to grow in where they shaved it last year...maybe dogs' hair grows slower when they get older, just like people?
He had is surgery August 5th! He has been groomed twice since. As a Springer we "shave" his back, flanks, and sides and leave a skirt. After the first grooming we could still see the area, but assumed that it would take a bit of time to grow. After his grooming last week, we realized that there are only sparse little short hairs in that area and it really shows. The skin is very dry and flakey too, but it doesn't seem to bother Gordie in any way. (He does have a high pain tolerance I think) There is also a small spot right by the patch area that wasn't part of the patch but was part of the shaved area. The rest of the flank and leg shaving area is growing back and that is why this patch is now so obvious now.
Don't know but a little vaseline rubbed in well and then wiped off might help. Just don't want him to get it all over your house. Any nonscented, people type like Curel would be OK too, I think.
I have Aveeno for me. I will try it. It wasn't so obvious with the first grooming because the whole flank and leg were still short, but now you can see a rectangle of skin. In person, I can actually see the freckles on his skin!
