My 14 week old Goldendoodle has had a UTI ever since I got her. She has been on several rounds of antibiotics along with antibiotic injections at vet visits. I decided to see a different vet and immediately he told me she has a recessed vulva and he recommended waiting until she is 6 months to see if growth will correct the problem. I came straight home to google and read everything I could. I found that most vets suggest waiting until after at least one heat cycle. Now I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions or experiences to share?
My Sheba has a recessed vulva. She's now 6 years old and has had many UTI's. It's very frustrating and it can get expensive with the medicine and vet visits. Poor Sheba as had quite a few bladder sticks in her life not to mention the pain she's suffered. She had been to the vet several times before she was 6 mo. old due to UTIs. No one told me she had a recessed vulva and I didn't know anything about recessed vulvas. If I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would have let her go through her first heat cycle and hopefully her anatomy would have changed to prevent the infections. If you chose to wait until after the first heat cycle please be very careful and keep her confined. You don't want an unwanted pregnancy! I'm sorry you and your pup have to go through this. Good luck to you both! : )
