Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Naboo is our 5 month old golden doodle. He had his surgery on Thursday......was I just being naive or had I just completely underestimated how difficult this was going to be for our poor boy!!

He came home from the vets wearing a cone, which he hates. He is continually trying to get to his stitches & managed to achieve this in the 3 minutes I took to shower on Friday morning....with the collar on...we had to return to the vets to get a larger collar!!... I spent the night on Thursday lying on the floor next to him, trying to comfort him as he cried pretty much continually & got really angry & frustrated when he tried to get to his wound. My husband was up with him from 2a.m today with the same issues. He has tramadol prescribed which we are giving as regularly as we are permitted which do settle him for a while but even then he is restless & wants one of us to be sitting with him. He is eating & drinking but as he is so reluctant to walk, we are taking it to him..... We live in California where we hit 100 degrees yesterday so I was offering water every 30minutes. He really doesn't want to walk without maximum encouragement & took us 20minutes to get him into the garden to pee as he hadn't been for nearly 12 hours!!....he didn't poo at all yesterday, usually a 4 times a day guy, but did this morning but was distressed although he must have felt better afterwards as there was lots!! ....our poor little guy!!

I have searched the forums & read about others who have sailed through this procedure unlike our boy. Have others had similar experiences?.....we are feeling so guilty for doing this although never doubted having him neutered.

P.s....I'm British so if some of my wording is different...that's why....haha!,

Hi. I guess we were lucky. We had both Shaggy and Scrappy fixed at the same time, they both walked a little gently but got along fine. Scrappy still tries to "hump" Shaggy some of the time even after 7 months....oh well... Good luck with Naboo!
Ned was 4 months and sailed through it.  The vet we had used disolving stitches and perhaps they aren't as itchy?  We didn't use any pain meds or a cone either.  I have read of others using shirts and underwear to cover the areas with success.
Mmmmmm!! I'm guessing our little boy is just very unlucky!!...:-(.. Thank you for your replies...
