In February, Hershey developed a rash on his tummy all the way to the inside of his hind legs. Scratching like crazy, he lost fur. We took him to the vet, who, not knowing what was causing it, prescribed Prednizone and an antibiotic. The rash cleared up. A few days after the meds were finished, the rash returned. :-/
The rash looks like chicken pox, little red spots, even the whites of his eyes are bloodshot. Hershey has been on Frontline. His diet is Blue buffalo, Basics. Benadrill clears his eyes, and lessons the redness of the rash, but he continues to scratch all over including his back.
My labradoodle, Duke has had that rash almost monthly since we got him at 2 months old and would scratch all over but he never seemed to lick or chew on his paws. He would get the Pred & antibiotics for the skin infection and the rash would return after he was off the medication. He also has had many ear infections and the membranes around his eyes are always very red but his eyeballs are not bloodshot. He had been on benedryl but it really didn't help him much. Recently I had Duke tested for allergies. He was diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis and has started allergy shots. Has your Vet suggested checking him for mites or suggested any food trials?
We have a group here on DK called "atopic dermatitis support group". You may want to read through those posts....I think they're public now? If not, let me know and I'll get you the posts about our doods and their skin problems.
We have a 3 year old Australian Labradoodle who has had major skin issues for about a year. She is now under the care of a board certified dermatologic vet and her staff. She is doing great now....a happy, non-itchy, dood!!
