So my baby girl goes in this week for the double surgery, I'm just reaching out for feedback/advice on aftercare. I know the gastropexy is much more invasive than the spay and I know I'll get a checklist of things to do from the vet when I pick her up but looking for feedback from those who have already been through it (hits, misses, things to watch for, etc). I'm just real nervous for her, she's my odd little wild child so I'm concerned about her plus the surgery facility is not local so any issues will fall on my vet and/or at an emergency facility. The more I know the better prepared I'll be. This poor girl had a rough start in the beginning so I want to make this as easy on her as possible.
It's been a while since my other two were spayed and neither had any interest in the stitches luckily but Sassy was extremely hyper (spastic) the week following her surgery so keeping her calm was a real challenge. I'll be home with her the first few days then will do a tag team with my daughter.
Any advice on keeping her from the stitches if it poses a problem, resuming her normal diet (vet office briefly mentioned transitioning slowly back to kibble), walking, stairs, downtime, etc.
Thanks in advance

Yes she's on a short leash as well at all times, and we've closed off the family room so space is small to move around. With the gastropexy not sure she can have a consumable chew toy but we do have cuddly toys available. She keeps trying to engage in play with both Sassy and the kitten. I crate while preparing meals or when everyone else is eating and she's not happy about it. The downfall of multiple pets, why are they free and i'm not! Up to day 4 post surgery, almost to the half way point.
I just wanted to throw this out in case anyone is interested. I did get a quote from my vet - and for just the gastropexy it was 331 and for the gastropexy and spay it's 457 for a total of 788.00. I have them both scheduled for the same day in September. I hope it goes as well as this one is. I'm a little nervous.
*I'm in the midwest, so vet costs are often lower than in other parts of the country.
Those prices seem very reasonable to me.
I agree. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. And I know he does all the pre-op lab work and the monitoring. I feel like they are in really good hands with him.
And that's so important. You will be nervous anyway, I know, but trusting your vet is more than half the battle.
I do trust him - I think he's a good vet and very detail oriented. As much as I don't want to do this, I never want to go through what you went through. I have the benefit of your experience, as terrible as it was. That's part of Jack's legacy. He's still helping others.
You have no idea how much that means to me. :)
I second that. Hearing what you went through with Jack and Nancy with Gordie I'm grateful an affordable option came my way. Out the door Maisie was $487 and some change. She's doing really well and the incision looks good. I just wish she wasn't so spunky and would just chill more.
