Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

When I got home on Saturday our 7 1/2 month old goldendoodle had been there for a few hours alone. I let her out and when she came back to me she started dry heaving, and then eventually vomited a little foam and saliva completely clear. I was a little worried but her stools were normal, and she was very playful all evening. She vomited again this morning (Monday) about 6:45 am. She went in her crate and heaved for a second, I woke up and when I got the lights on and got into her crate it was again clear saliva a little foam, and a little grass. Again, she has a perfect poop this morning drank, peed, begged for breakfast and was following me around all morning with a tail wagging while I got ready. She doesn't eat things she shouldn't inside, but she loves to eat grass and try to bring in sticks to chew from outside. We also had some company last week that stayed with us, could she just be anxious or something? Or do I need to take her to the vet? Oh! It also stormed all night, but she doesn't usually mind storms at all.

Thanks in advance!

I would supervise her in the yard to prevent her from eating anything she shouldn't including grass. If there are no more episodes of vomiting, and her appetite, stool, and energy levels are all normal, I don't think she needs to see the vet. Just keep an eye on her.

Some dogs will vomit bile first thing in the a.m. from having an empty stomach. A small snack in the evening before bed can help with that.

This is what I was looking for, we were thinking that since she was acting fine and all other bowel functions were normal that we shouldn't be worried, but wanted reassurance that we shouldn't take her to vet quite yet. I had heard kennel cough has been going around in our area, and she's vaccinated against it but I suppose it could be another strain.

is she coughing?  what you are describing is one of the symptoms of kennel cough...

Kennel cough has been going around in our area. She coughs every once in awhile but doesn't always vomit, kennel cough is a virus?

kennel cough sounds like they are trying to cough up something stuck in the throat...with gagging & vomiting the clear saliva & foam after coughing, not every time.  watch her in case this type of cough develops...Baker picked it up at the groomer, in spite of being vaccinated. Kennel cough is bacterial & needs Rx.   good luck :)

Oh dear, she was at the groomer just a week ago.
I just looked up the symptoms of kennel cough and didn't realize that was even a possibility but it has been going around the area and we take her many places with us. Some of the symptoms are the same as seasonal allergy symptoms. So I didn't even think about it being a virus when she was coughing and sneezing with extra runny eyes and nose. Honestly didn't worry when she vomited the other night, just when it happened again this morning I started to get worried. So glad that it just takes some monitoring and looks like nothing is serious.

Bordatella is extremely contagious, though.

Oh she's not going anywhere (unless she needs a vet trip) for at least a few weeks. Just in case. I'm guessing there's not a "kennel cough test" that they can give to make sure? Like a strep or flu test ? That sure would make things easier! Can humans get the strain that dogs have? Does she need to see the vet? Or is this something she'll get over? If it IS kennel cough.

There is no test for it, and humans can't get it. And it does usually go away on its own, although it can take a couple of weeks. That said, I personally would have the vet take a look at her, just to be on the safe side. :)
