My youngest dog has a constant yeast infection in his paws, elbows, and some on his collar. He is a swimmer, starting at 6am for his morning swim and in and out all day long. Needless to say, I cannot keep him dry and I know that is the problem. He received a steroid shot that brought him relief for a month. He has some dermatology medicine called Resi KetoChlor too. My big problem is I cannot keep him out of the pool long enough to let the medicine work. I have microfiber cloths and he enjoys being dried off but it isn't dry enough. I put it on late at night but be needs it more often. Does anyone know about the effectiveness of neem oil? The vet also suggested athletes feet cream or spray I keep forgetting to try. Anyone else battle this and win?

Resi KetoChlor is very effective, much more so than Neem oil or any other OTC product.. But you are going to have to keep him out of the pool. Can't you just not let him out so often?

He uses the doggy door. I could shut it off but hate to do that.

It's really important that it be kept dry long enough for the medication to work. Yeasts thrive in moisture. With any other product you would use, you would still have to keep it dry.

Yes Karen, you are right. I was hoping for an easier answer so he could still do what he loves best-swim :)

How long does the medicine need to be on him? Could you dry him with a blow dryer or one of those  high velocity professional dog blowers during the day to get him dry in the affected areas then apply the med and  keep him out of the pool for whatever period of time is needed? I have no experience with neem oil other than using it on pests in the garden. But it works well for that purpose. :)

Too funny! I'm sitting here watching my dog get groomed and I was thinking the same thing about the dryer!

LOL! GMTA!

My 11 week old Goldendoodle is constantly licking his genital area after he pees as well as random times during the day. I've also noticed him biting at his tail and paws. Is this a sign that he has a yeast infection or something is wrong? I hate it if he is any discomfort so any advice/help is appreciated!

My doodle licks his penis at times. But the biting of tail and paws may indicate allergies.
I'm going to say something and I am being serious.
Question; why do dogs lick their penis?
Answer: because they can
Man: oh, I am so jeolous
It's an age old issue that is harmless and can be the envy of human males

About the paws. Are you in a wet, snowy climate right now? My dog in this weather does this a lot just because his feet get wet. He also loves to chase his tail, bite it, then spin around. I think that's age old too. I hope that's what's going on with your pup too. He is very you g for allergies.

Eleven weeks is awfully young for allergies. Maybe he does have some type of yeast overgrowth on the skin, or possibly mites? The vet would have to take a skin scraping and check it under a microscope. Just don't let the vet tell you he's allergic to his food and sell you an Rx food.

Maybe he's just an itchy dog.

Good point about how young he is.
