Halas was 13 lbs at 4 months, too. He turned 19 months old yesterday, and he's 25 lbs.

charlie just had his 4month check up; 13 pounds; sounds like they are all pretty close in size; it will be interesting to see where they end up.

No not yet. Just the top row, and 2 on the bottom. The vet told me the pointy teeth wont fall out for another month or so. He weighed in at 13lbs our last vet visit!

Anyone else's pup losing their teeth? Poor Barley has lost 5 within the past 2 days...his gum's are really inflamed.

Does anyone else feel like their puppy has very large ears? I know people say he will grow into them....but Barley's seem to be going at rapid speed. His right ear is always flipped over...funny that in our group photo, his ear is also flipped over...guess that is his 'thing'.

thanks for the tips! i have been brushing charlie regularly, it doesn't take long but he definitely doesn't love it. have to bribe him with treats. i am so afraid of when the matting starts.

I'm finally getting around to posting a few grooming tips. First of all, I have relied a lot on the Grooming Group here on DK, so I definitely recommend joining that group and checking it out. But I would guess that the coats on Rubi and Jocque's newer litter will be similar to Halas' coat, so I'll tell you what works for me. Start brushing early and often. Right now, it won't take too much time, and the puppies can get used to it in short sessions. Halas started losing his puppy coat at around 9 or 10 months old, and that's when brushing him really became a challenge. I need to spend about 30 minutes brushing him about twice per week right now, because I think he's still got some puppy coat left. Normally, I think I'll end up brushing him once a week for 30 -45 minutes. When you brush, you have to make sure that you're getting all the way down to the skin, or you won't be getting any mats that may be starting. And Halas matted like crazy when he started losing that puppy coat. I use this stuff called Cowboy Magic to put on Halas' mats. It makes them easier to brush through. I also recommend getting a really good brush, like the Les Pooches brush. It's expensive, but definitely worth it. You may not need it until the puppy coat starts coming out, but keep it in mind. It works so much better than any other brush or comb we tried. Halas is only 25 lbs, and I've found that putting him up on a table helps. I just have a cheap card table. That wouldn't work for a standard doodle, but it should work for our minis. Halas is more still on the table than he is on the floor. I also have some vanilla almond scented stuff that I spray on him when we're done. It makes him smell nice, it helps his coat look less poofy, and it helps separate the hairs to keep them from matting. It also seems to cut down on static electricity, but that's probably just because it moisturizes the hair a little bit.

Halas was a little over 5 months old the first time he went to the groomer. I think I gave him one or two baths myself before that. I brushed him a lot, and I cut his eyebrows once because he couldn't see. He probably could have waited longer before going to a groomer, but I thought it would be good to get him used to going. At that age, it wouldn't take too long to bathe and brush him, so he could start with a little time, and work his way up to however long it takes now.

Sheila, yes, The Paw Pad is in Deer Creek. There's a Paw Pad group here on DK, too, if you want to check it out.

Is Paw Pad in Deer Creek? We went to Iowa for our doods but we live in Goodfield, didn't know about Paw Pad 2 miles away.
