Hi there! We just put down a deposit for a puppy at log cabin. Our puppy should arrive late December. Wondering what to expect as far as updates and communication goes. Of course I want to know everyday what's going on, but what should I reasonably expect from log cabin as far as updates? We are just so excited! And advice for new puppy parents?

You didn't get any responses, probably because communication is not their best quality. They are fabulous, as far as I am concerned, especially after you get your pup. But the promised weekly photos - not always on time. The waiting is difficult. I was like a crazy person. In the end, though, we have a truly amazing puppy. She's now 17 months old and we marvel at her intelligence, personality and affection daily. So I guess that's the most important thing.

There is tons of advice on this site. If you haven't already done it, join the "puppy madness" group. You will get all the info you need there, for sure!

My personal advice is to get yourself an excellent trainer that you click with. I don't know where you live. We are in the Boston area. If you are anywhere near me, you can private message me and I'll give you a great referral.

Enjoy! Here is a photo of our pup. Who are the parents, by the way? Josie's are Hunny and Oliver. She's full grown at 13 lbs. That's definitely on the small side, but that's exactly what we wanted! You can't tell from this picture, but she also has a beautiful, soft fleecy-wavy coat that rarely mats :)

Thank you so much for the information Robin! It's good to hear that my communication expectations are perhaps not in line with reality. I guess since I am in front of a computer all day, I just assume others are too!

I too feel like a crazy person with waiting. Nice to know I am not alone!

The parents of my pup are Minnie and Oliver. I wanted the largest male of the litter, so should be around 30 pounds. Josie is adorable! I'm relieved to hear the wait is worth it.

I will check out "puppy madness" and thanks for the trainer information in advance. I think my husband is probably harder to train though :)

Hi Ashley,
Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I was 'checked out' for a bit-busy summer. I was just reading your comment to me as I was accepting your invite, and the comment disappeared. I have to say, I wasn't sure what to say about your question, because I didn't want to worry you. But I will share some thoughts.
As far as communication, it was very poor. It drove me crazy.
I do think that their Breeders are of good 'stock' but looking back, I do have concerns. My vet initially asked how many litters does her mom have in a year. She thought more than one was too much. I see now that Whimsy will be breed for the third time in less than a year. Seems like a lot to me.
Maple is a Whimsy/ Oliver pup. She has a hereditary condition called 'Base Narrow Canine' basically her lower canines grew in too narrow and punctured her upper pallet. Her baby lower canines needed to be extracted in order to give more room for the adult teeth. I contacted Jamie several times before she finally got back to me (just before the scheduled procedure). She did not support us or believe that her diagnosis was correct. All I can say is that- how could I leave her in pain and risk infection for several more months and risk missing the opportunity of giving her teeth the best chance? So we were on our own. I didn't feel up to fighting her on it. We've been doing ball therapy every day for months, and one of her adult teeth is still a bit too narrow. She may need to see a specialist for another procedure. Even though her parents are healthy-get insurance. We were so glad that we had.
Lastly, the more I did research here after the fact, the more I'm convinced that early spay and neuter may not be so great. I was so worried one day when Maple urinated herself while sleeping, as incontinence can be a result of early spay. That being said you'd be hard pressed to find an ALD breeder that doesn't do it.
All in all, we love Maple to pieces. She is so smart, clever and playful. Really a part of our family. Can't imagine life without her.
She is now 10 months old and about 23 lbs.
Can't wait to see pics of your new pup! Enjoy!
Also here are a few pics. The other pup is a Truffles / Bandit pup. Maple's BFF. So different- quiet, mild love bug, although not so smart. Lol!

I have a puppy from Log Cabin-- Buster Brown. He's from Hunny and Tully-- and I'm totally in love with him! I also have a Golden Doodle named Archie who is almost 2. Buster is 5+ months old now. We're still working on house training, but he's doing pretty well. Great disposition-- he gets along great with Archie! but, they have very distinct personalities! I agree with the previous comments that communication wasn't the greatest-- but, I think they have problems with internet service, too. That being said, I am absolutely in love with Buster, and wouldn't trade this experience for the world!

This is Buster Brown...
