Had to join your group in the hopes of getting some great advice. All of the beautiful pictures that have been posted on here from this area have inspired me to want to make a trip up that way. However, I know absolutely nothing about this part of the Country. I just had an e-mail from Vacation Home Rentals about a beautiful little cottage about 20 mins from Antigonish NS and this got me to thinking that I need to get busy and start doing some research if I'm ever going to make this trip. Any input on great places to visit (Dog friendly of course) would be really appreciated. I've loved all the photos of the water, whale watching, fishing villages, etc. All so beautiful. Great Shopping is always wonderful as well.
Many thanks.

Hello
Welcome
I live in Nova Scotia- Just outside Halifax. Last year we wanted to take Chester on Vacation with us so when we went around the Cabot trail in Cape Breton ( a MUST do). We stayed at the Silver Dart Lodge in Baddeck. - Very Pet friendly- although they didn't want you to leave Dogs in room without a person- so when we ate he had to put him in the car- but ir was great.
The food was awesome too. http://www.maritimeinns.com/en/home/silverdartlodge/default.aspx
Also Peggy's Cove is very Scenic.
Shopping - Halifax / Dartmouth.
Glad to help- if you have more questions/etc..

You are going to have a great time here. If you plan to be in Antigonish, be prepared for lots of Doodle sighting. Our breeder is in Antigonish and I think that every other person owns one! I would like to know what time of year you plan to come to recommend some places to visit. We are affected by the weather at times but you can find lots of things to keep you busy. If you come to the HRM (i.e.-the Halifax area) you will be in the 'city' style atmosphere but there are still lots of parks and greenery too. Places like citadel hill, Point Pleasent Park and even out to York Redoult can be fun. Peggy's Cove is a given if you are in HRM. About a 40 minute drive from the city but be prepared for some turny roads. Ruby can get car sick at times so that is the reason I mention it. You can also go to the Prospect area (also on the Peggy's Cove route) but with a few less tourists. You can see some great fishing villages in both areas. I could go on and on.
But I agree about Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. There is a bakery in Cheticamp called La boulangerie that is amazing.
I hope you do choose to come! It is a great place to be!!
It would definitely be a summertime trip.
Many thanks to you both for your wonderful suggestions. What I'm going to be doing is checking all of these places out and seeing if I can map out some sort of route, and then try and talk DH into thinking that this is a good idea. He is having a little trouble grasping the idea that it is a 3 day drive just to get up there. Might be a little too much to take on, but I'm going to see. Thanks so much.
Hi
You should order a (free) Doers and Dreamers Guide for Nova Scotia - from the tourism site. It is a great tool for planning trips.
Also if you are into the "titanic" it is the 100th anniversary of the sinking and Halifax played a big role in that- The Maritime Museum has a lot of Artifacts and there are some graves here.
Did you decide on a Vacation to Nova Scotia ? We don't mind doodle sitting if you want to do something not dog friendly in the Halifax area.
Thanks so much for the offer. Unfortunately, Lucy tore the ACL in her knee and she is going to be having surgery on Tuesday. The recovery from this surgery is approximately 3-4 months so all of our plans for much of anything have been put on hold for the summer. This trip though is one we will have to plan for a while out as it will be fairly expensive and even though we have insurance for Lucy just our co-pay and our percentage of the payment for the surgery has put a little dent in my travel budget for now. I've still got Nova Scotia on my bucket list though so still hope to get there!
OH dear! Sorry to hear about Lucy's ACL. Is she in much pain? That is a long recovery. Hope everything goes well.
