For Those of You Who Need To Laugh

This is a cross post from a Blog written by Laurie, Fudge, and Vern

She often writes about Vern~ who has some scarey issues.  She can find humor in some of these situations. Here is hoping we can too.

Judy,
A lot of dogs pee at training school. They have spray and paper towels handy. Don't sweat it. Though you might ask if they have any teachers who are into sensitive or fearful dogs. Porter's basic training teacher was attending a seminar on the issue. The subject came up because Porter would not walk past an open door in the classroom that led to a dark room. Porter has a fearful nature but has been lucky on the nurture front: guardian home until 14 weeks with kids, siblings, parent and aunt dogs around him, followed his current life in which I gently push his envelope all the time...makes the stuff in the envelope old-hat. Still belong to this group though because anxiety, fears and submissive peeing are part of his life still.

My Sully growls and barks and runs and hides. Also, when people are too close he pees. I know he was not socialized as a pup because he has kennel syndrome and was 4 months when I got him. My obedience trainer has inside facility and I am afraid to take him because of the "peepee" issues.

Hi - I just joined this group. Noah generally does not have fears (and defintely not aggression). However, recently and suddenly he became afraid of our best friends who visit about once a month. They have played with him since he was 10 week old with no problems. Now he runs upstairs and hides when they come. In fact, one day I was outside with him, they arrived and were in the house and he noticed their car in the driveway. He walked about 100 feet out of his way just to avoid their car (which was empty). They love our doodle so much and are so sorry that he won't even let them near him to pet him. He even won't take a treat from them or anyone in the house when they are here. So strange since Noah gets along with all strangers, animals, etc. Any ideas out there?

Hi Ginny,
So glad you are here. Come in and stay awhile--I promise not to bite :)

I definitely belong in this group! I have a doodle that is pretty afraid of everything and reacts by hiding, shaking or barking. This is much worse at home but she is shy around people in the street, too. She is better when I am right there with her and is now learning to trust other people in the house, but it is slow progress. She got her therapy dog certification at the age of 1 and one half! But now, at almost 2 she is not as good as she was then. I will have to keep trying!
