Running / Mini Labradoodle Growth Plates?

At what age do mini (20-25lb) Labradoodles growth plates set? 

I want to run with our pup (currently 5mo) old but read so many conflicting things. I have heard that for smaller breeds (like the minis) starting (slooooowly) at 9mo is fine (bigger dogs at 12-18mo.) However our vet said even 6mo would be fine - though I feel like he hemmed and hawed his way to that answer so I'm a little unsure... 

Anyone know any more scientifically what a safe age to start running with a mini labradoodle would be? I don't want to risk damage/pain to him in later life, but he loves to run and I think he would really enjoy it as soon as we are ready! 

Has anyone ever x-rayed their dog to see if it's safe to start??

I don't have scientific data, but can tell you that when our pup was neutered (he was about 6 months) he was xrayed and showed that his hip joint had not grown to fill the hip socket.  Teddy was showing signs of pain when jumping and since he was under for surgery, we ordered the xray.  We are at 15 months and our vet said no need to re-xray til he was three.  She said that no need to restrict activity as long as Teddy showed no signs of pain.

It's a tough call, but I would just see how your cutie pie responds! When our pup was 'new', he didn't like to take walks, and I didn't make him, now he sees the leash and runs to the door.  These are smart dogs!!
