Tell me the truth....I can take it (I think)

We picked up our "mini" multiple-gen labradoodle yesterday! We're in love! Last week our breeder sent us his last picture and said the males in this litter were trending larger than in the past. His father is a 25 lb mini poodle and his mom is a 38 lb multiple-gen labradoodle. Quincy at 91/2 weeks is already a whopping 15 pounds! Will I end up with a standard sized doodle or large medium?

I have a mini golden doodle, - he weighs 50 lbs....and looking for another, what is the end weight when they are finished growing and do you have a websight

Quincy is so cute...congratuations.  I love his "action" shot.  At 9 weeks, Rua weighed 4.2lbs.  At 16 weeks, she had doubled to 8.4lbs.  Last time I weighed her on a vet scale was at 8 months 3 weeks and she weighed 16.4lbs  She will be 10 months is 5 more days and weighs 16.5lbs (weighed her just now on the bathroom scale...so not totally accurate).  She is somewhere between 11-1/2 - 12" at shoulders. 

 

I used the chart below, using the percentages, and so far it has been pretty close!

Thanks for the chart Dori.  We see the vet tomorrow and I will ask their thoughts as well.

Quincy is so much fun.  He is a great addition to our family.

Congrats on your new baby! What a cutie!!

 

Tara is a mini and she weighed 5.4 pounds at 9 weeks old. At 2 1/2 years old she weighs 22 pounds.  Tara's weight at 4 months was 11.7 pounds. So if I apply Amy's "rule of thumb" of  doubling the 4 month weight, Tara has ended up pretty close to the "rule" or slightly under.

 

Boy, I would doubt that you would end up with a standard with the sizes of your pups parents. I  remember that Tara had a few growth spurts when she was tiny that had me thinking she was going to be huge too. This could be one of those for Quincy. Best wishes to all of you!

Thanks so much Ricki.  I'm thinking his growth should taper off but the breeder said "don't forget there is Lab in his genes."  So she is thinking he will be more medium than mini (which is just fine for us).

How is he doing!!  So adorable! I think that's great about possibly being larger!  We are getting a medium ALD in July and we also wanted a little male.  There is only one male in the litter (they are 1 week old now) and he looks to be the smallest thus far!  I know a lot can change within the next couple of weeks but I was hoping he would be  a larger medium-sized dog.  Keep us posted!

Thanks Gayle!  Quincy is doing great.  He is very laid back which is exactly what I wanted.  The breeder seems to think he'll be more medium in size 40 -50 lbs so we'll see what he ends up being.  Quincy got car sick twice on our 5 hour car ride home and was very restless the first night but we're making improvements slowly.  He's getting up every couple of hours at night so I feel like we have a new born baby again, lol.

Good luck with your little guy.  Sometimes the smallest ones end up being the largest ones :-)

And so I've been reading...about the getting up several times / night!  Thank God it's somewhat short lived, huh!!!  Just think, you'll be way beyond that by the time I'm just beginning in  July!!  If we're lucky enough to call this little guy, we'll name him Jackson.

My Callie, multigen labradoodle is 11 months. Mother was 65 lbs, 25 inches and Dad was 30 lbs, 18 inches. Callie is 35 lbs and is tall like her mother. She is my 4th doodle and I don't sense she will get bigger than 40 lbs. Hope this helps and you will love your boy regardless of size. Some say mini and unless you have one like my multigen labradoodle Gracie 17 lbs they are not "lapdoodles". Callie will get into my lap but only when I am sitting on the floor! Good luck and enjoy your "medium labradoodle" :  ) I have a 1 mini, 2 medium and 1 large and life is FUN!!

You're right...we LOVE him sooooo much already.  He has a great personality.  VERY laid back and friendly.  He just wants to be where ever you are!  He's like a stuffed animal that's come to life :-)

You will not end up with a standard.  I would call breeder back and just ask. . . how does this mating trend?  I'll bet  can tell you within 5 lbs.  Don't worry.  Could be as big as dad, which is a medium.  That's not a bad size.  I have a 9.7 and wish she was bigger.  You won't have to deal w/ small dog issues.  It took 7 mos to potty train Sheila in winter (about killed me) AND she barks alot.  I think the bigger ones are laid back.  I had 2 labs and a german short haired pointer (who was 40 lbs.).  If I wasn't older and the proud owner of 3, yes 3 shoulder surgeries from my greatly loved athletes (bigger dogs)  I much prefer their personalities.  Not that I don't adore Sheila, its just my time of life to downsize.  Talk to Nancy and Ned and Clancy.  Her Ned is JUST ABOUT PERFECT. He's about 35lbs.

Thanks DeeDee!  The breeder thinks he will be more of a medium than a mini.  I'm fine with that as we are so in love with him already.  He is so smart and sweet!  A perfect match for my 8 year old son! :-)
