I'll be getting my goldendoodle the first weekend in december. I've decided to name him Noah. His parents are 14lbs (dad: mini poodle) and 17lbs (mom: mini goldendoodle). He is also the runt of the litter. Yesterday, at 6 weeks old, he weighed 3lbs and 5.75oz. He is half a pound smaller than the next smallest in the litter. I am really hoping he stays under 15lbs, but obviously, there's no guarantee. Does anyone have or breed doodles this small? I have met a few people with tiny goldendoodles that will mature to around 10lbs, but it seems the smaller they are bred, the less they "look" like a doodle and the more they begin to look like a toy poodle-mix.
Also, are any of your doodles velcro dogs? My 7 month old maltipoo, Sherlock, is a bit of a velcro baby and literally follows me all around the apartment. If I go inside a store and he has to stand out on the street with my sister or friend, he'll throw a tantrum. Maybe it's the maltese and TOY poodle in him. I told the breeder that I prefered a more mellow dog who wanted to be a lap baby than one that was super hyper. The breeder says that my goldendoodle cradles like a baby. I wonder if Noah will become a velcro dog too...? I wanted one around 15 - 20lbs so he would be a bit more independent than the toy breeds. We shall see though....
I've seen a few at my local dog park ...The smallest that I've seen personally is a 14 lb. black female who I thought was a lanky cockapoo minus a docked tail.....I know that there are breeders on here who do super mini minis....Maybe Patty Barnes?....Check in with her...
My belle was 4 lbs at 8 weeks old. She is now 14 lbs at 10 months old. I don't think she will grow much more. She definately looks like a doodle and not like a toy poodle mix. Her mom was 50 lb golden retriever and her dad was a 5 lb toy poodle. She is not a velcro dog, but does love to be cradled in my arms.
