Exercising your mini pup

Xander is ~8 weeks old, and I want him to play and have fun running around. I have been told not to push him too hard as pups, so I wanted to reach out and hear your thoughts... We live in a town home, and so far he has walked around our 4 home complex - but by the end he is whining a little. Are we going too far, or is this whining normal for pups?

Anyways, we live in a great area with parks, canyons and fields... I want him to enjoy all this, but I don't want to cause future damage.

How far were you walking your pups, and when? Do you remember when (s)he was walking a mile, 3, 5?

Xander is leash training right now, and his recall isn't too bad. Any experience would be appreciated!
