Popeye looks a lot like some of Kona's photos when he was 7 months. So danged cute! Two things to note....Kona filled out several more pounds after 18 months old, so don't be shocked to see another 3 to 5 pounds come along. Kona stayed at 19 pounds for several months. Then 24 pounds for nearly a year. Then his medicine weight gain of 5 pounds in 2 months last fall, and he hasn't lost it. The vet says he is a good weight and the 5 extra pounds is still not considered overweight for him, but it was so quick and different.
And the other thing....Kona didn't have even one single mat in his hair until after 8 months old, and then it was just a few on his ear. But when I adopted Maggie when he was 10 months old and they wrestled for HOURS, he became a MESS in 4 days! I was soooo used to how easy it was to brush him and all of a sudden I had to keep sharp scissors and a dematting comb nearby during grooming sessions. The matting settled back down again after I got used to staying on top of them at least every other day, but they really were a shock after having such an easy puppy to groom for 10 months!
Here are 2 photos of him at 7 months old to show you how similar his coat was to Popeye's back then. It is curlier now.
