Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello
We are looking to add a doodle to our forever family. We found a doodle from an Australian doodle breeder in Michigan. This pup is going to be 1 in January he has been "adopted" 2x by different families and returned for different reasons ~ too large for one family and too active (he was 3 months old) for the first family.
He is blind in one eye but other then that issue he is healthy no other special needs. The breeder is asking $1800 for him. They usually charge $2000 - $2500 for puppies.
We feel that is high considering his age, eye issue and the fact he was returned 2x. The breeder states we need to expect to "pay" for the housetraining.
Thoughts??? We would love to have him to love and spoil. The breeder is open to an offer ~ what would be a fair offer?
Thanks!
Lynn

Hi there. How lovely that you are willing to take on this sad little boy, that has been through so much, and give him a forever home. That is so special. You are taking on quite a challenge with him being blind and also not house trained. I really feel that the breeder is just being "greedy". As someone said, she should be grateful that he has a wonderful forever home to go to. My rescue of four weeks, Johnny, is about 12months or less. He was found running on a freeway with another do. The vet reckons they had been on the streets for months. He was born with entropia (bottom eyelids turn inwards, digging the eyelashes into the eyes and also making them virtually blind. Doodle rescue not only freed him from the kill shelter but paid for his eye surgery, hernia surgery and neutering amongst other things like shots and a chip. I found him on doodlekisses and immediately applied for him. (so did about 15 other people) With the luck of God, we got him and he is amazing. So very sweet, never once had an accident, walks amazingly on the leash and it is like we have had him forever. We paid about $379 for Johnny from DRC. Check out his pictures...he is gorgeous. As DRC is such a wonderful organization, I would have paid whatever price they asked as what they do to save and re-home these dogs is amazing. However, I did do and will continue to do fund raisers to try and offset his surgical costs. Sorry, I have rambled on about myself too much. What I am trying to say, is that you should offer that breeder no more than $500 for your boy. After all, the blind eye is possbily genetic anyway..which does not say much for her. Sorry but I hate greedy people.
Do post the outcome of this as I know many of us are with you all the way and would love to offer any help. God Bless x
