Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all! We're a single Doodle home right now but once Bernie matures a bit and can set a good example we're considering getting another Doodle. I have some questions though, and was hoping a few of you had some input.

Does anyone have a standard and medium? I'm thinking (ideally) a medium sized female would be a pleasant addition. Bernie is on his way to 60lbs at 7 months and I don't know if I want to bring in another HUGE one! Does the size difference work? Pros and cons?

Did your relationship change a lot with your first one? We don't have kids, and sometimes I think there's no way I could put Bernie through sharing our attention with another dog! Is it just me?

Are your Doodles the same or different? Anyone have a Labra and a Golden? What about one of those two and an Aussie? Does the mix work just fine? Pros and cons or noticeable differences?

I know this is a lot, if you have an opinion on any of it I'd appreciate your help, certainly don't feel like you need to reply to everything!

We have Ned a 17" tall, 26 pound Australian Labradoodle and Clancy, a 19" tall 63 pound #$# doodle.  We think he might be a goldendoodle but actually who knows because he is a rescue.  Clancy has short stocky legs and a heavy body. He and Ned are as different physically as night and day. Ned is poodle-like and athletic.  We got Ned as a pup and Clancy as a two year old.  Ned is the alpha at our house.  The dogs play together with no problem except for the time they were both running in a dog park and Clancy just mowed Ned down.  Ned yelped, rolled and kept running. We also have a sweet Springer Spaniel and when we added Clancy to our pack last March we also had a lab mix.
I have a mixed doodle family and wouldn't have it any other way.  We got our first doodle as a companion for a standard poodle who was very depressed after losing his companion.  Worked so wonderfully that we decided we would never have a solitary dog again.  When the poodle was on his way out, I got another doodle for a companion to the first.  Doodle #1 (Hondo) died in September and I had another doodle within a week.  Doodle #2 was so depressed that he was losing weight and just sat on my feet.  His life changed immediately with Doodle #3.  So, I now have a 85-lb. 30 inches tall goldendoodle and a 38-lb. 21 inch tall Australian labradoodle.  They are best of friends and play together all day.  At the dog park, Doodle #3 chases and plays the whole time and Doodle #2 follows him and defends him if anyone gets too rambunctious.
Sounds like no matter what the situation our Doodles make a big impact. We've had Bernie for a little over 5 months and I already can't remember what it was like without him! Either way we have a little time before we'd consider getting another, so I appreciate everyone's input, and will continue to accept advice with an open mind - I'm sure we'll even change our minds a few times before we decide what to do. Just tonight my husband and Bernie were playing and he said "how could we possibly recreate another Bernie?!" I took it as his way of saying he doesn't know if he could feel the same way about another dog. But we all know they capture your heart without fail from first meeting =)
I have two labradoodles. Luca is smaller than Calla and weighs about 41 pounds to her 60. She is taller and heavier boned than him. He bosses her around nevertheless. He was with me for a year before her. They are certainly different in some ways. They have gotten along perfectly from day one. I was worried about Calla changing my relationship with Luca but I don't really think it has.
