Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are going on an Alaskan cruise at the end of May 2013 to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary.  We will be gone for 1 1/2 to 2 weeks.  The ship leaves from Seattle, WA.  We are looking for a back-up plan to watch Traz while we are away.  We have one person lined up, but if her dog goes into heat, she will not be able to watch Traz.

Traz is an 8 1/2 month old intact male (ALD) and part of a service dog breeding program.  He hasn't been breed yet, but since he is intact, many doggy day cares will not accept him.  The person that we hope will be able to watch him has Traz's sister (from another litter) and the two of them getting together would not be a good thing.  She is in the breeding program too.  Our breeder may have some potential sitters, but I figured I'd put this out there to see if there is anyone near our home.

Please respond to this discussion if you know of anyone who might be able to help us, in case our first plan falls through.

Thank you,

Karen, Dale & Traz

We are quite a bit south of you, but could take him in an emergency.  Since you will be gone for an extended period of time, he could stay with us.  We have two males (neutered) and have had several visitors while families were on vacation.  I have a 2 1/2 yr.-old ALD.  Look at the photos on my page.

Thank you for responding to this post, Lynda.  I love the pictures that you have in your slide show.  Traz has yet to experience swimming in water.  Hopefully that is something we can do with him this summer.  I will stay in touch regarding Traz and our cruise.  Hopefully our first plan will work out, but if not, Plan B or C will have to kick in.  The good thing is that we still have time to figure it all out.  Have a great day :-)

I was worried about Harpo because he likes to get in the water at the ocean.  If he had a problem at the ocean, I would not go in after him, but I am a life-long swimmer and would definitely go into a lake or swimming pool to assist him.  So...we put him in a class at the local canine rehab center for swimming lessons.  They teach them how to enter and exit the pool, and then to fetch.  After he had swimming lessons, we can take him to the pool for free swimming on Saturday mornings.  We are very lucky to have this facility in our community.  Check it out in your area.  It is an attachment to an animal hospital and has boarding, grooming, and rehab facilities.  Perfect for our needs.
