Charlie is finishing up her CGC class in two weeks.
She is doing fairly well, and I am thinking that she will at least pass the class, even though she may not pass the test itself. ( 7 out of 10 will pass her for the class but not for the certificate)
But, she still have some behavioral issues like resource guarding, and I would like to continue and further the obedience. What type of classes do you all recommend after CGC?

I guess it would depend on what is available near you. My goal with training is always the illusive off-leash reliable obedience...so that at least in theory I could take my dog anywhere (on or off leash) and regardless of the environment my dog would obey. Yeah, we're not anywhere near that, but that's my lack of advanced skills not their fault =)

You could take classes toward competition obedience or rally or agility...
I was thinking about Rally... Eventually, I would like to do the agility, but I am not sure yet because of her resource guarding issues....being off leash.... I am tinking that furthere we go with the obedience, better we can address some of the problematic behaviors.....
If you are interested in rally, i would look for a class in advanced obedience. They usually do the same commands, but with longer times and more distractions. Some classes will incorporate some rally exercises in this too.
How much in obedience has Charlie had, CGC "usually" leads to doing Therapy dog testing also. There are a few levels to work with in obedience that could help Charlie. I usually do 3 stages of obedience (Puppy, Beginner, Advanced) with my dogs finishing up with an advanced level. Depending on the trainer you might also find one who will combine doing obedience to start and then going into RallyO course work, so instead of it being an hour class you might be there 1 1/2 hours. If Charlie has a lot of energy,(seeking for something to do) and can stick with you pretty much on leash and start working with her off leash, I probably would do more obedience but also look towards doing agility.
I spoke with her trainer today in regard to my interest in continueing the obedience and addressing the problematic behavior.
She gave me a list of things for me to do to help her with the behavior, and we will met in 3 weeks to see the progress. Her rally class is offered on the days that I am not availble, so that it out of question. But decided to return to another CGC class, regardless to the outcome of the testing in 2 weeks. During the CGC class, Charlie and I will be working on somewhat different agenda than the dog that are there for the first time. Because of her behavior is fear induced, we will be working to de-sensitize her to the strangers and strange dog, and to build confidence.
I thought that she would tell me what to do with Charlie, like" When she growl at the dog if approached, do this...." But it was totally different! Again, teaching positively than correcting the negative behavior. We will see how this will all work out!!
