Best gear out there?

Hi all! This is a great group idea. Bernie will be 1 this June so we're really excited to get out there on some overnight hikes and camping trips.

I'm wondering if anyone wants to share their "must have" gear?

I've heard some people say boots are a must, and others who have hiked with dogs for years without problems; there are backpacks, harnesses, portable beds for camping, dehydrated food, so much stuff. We bought a backpack but he doesn't carry anything yet, I've heard it's best to wait til they're closer to a year?

I'd love to hear what's worked for everyone, what they're looking in to, what hasn't worked - we're new to trekking with a canine!
