Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I don't have a parti doodle but I think they are just beautiful! Someday, maybe :-) I have a question that I ponder every time I admire your gorgeous guys. Are there any f1 parti's? I have a chocolate f2 goldendoodle and I know from discussions in the chocolate group that chocolate f1's are rare because the golden retriever doesn't usually carry the chocolate gene. Is there a parti gene? If so, does both parents need to carry the parti gene and can a lab or golden carry the parti gene?

I know that the Tuxedo parti most commonly comes from the Retrievers - both Goldens and Labs have the St. John's Waterhound (now extinct as a breed) as a central forefather, and even Labs that have been purebred black for many generations can suddenly produce a Tuxedo. Goldens also have forefathers from two other distinct breeds that often were parti - the sand colored blood hound (usually has a black saddle) and the Tweed Water Spaniel (which certainly looks to me to have chocolate color).
St. John's Waterhound (the last two of the breed at an old age - looked exceedingly like Tuxedo Labs when younger):
