HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - A Labradoodle named 'Oscar' was the only one who noticed when a minivan caught fire in a Happy Valley neighborhood and his relentless barking is being credited for keeping the situation from getting worse.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon. According to Clackamas Fire District #1, the dog alerted its owner to the fire, which had broken out across the street at a neighbor's home. Oscar was sitting at a window barking and when his owner went downstairs to see what all the fuss was about, she saw her neighbor's minivan on fire and called 911.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out but the minivan was a total loss. They say the outcome could have been a lot worse - had Oscar not alerted his owner to what was going on, the fire could have burned down the house. There was minor damage to the home and one person who was home at the time was treated at the scene for minor respiratory issues.

The cause of the fire is unknown

Good for Oscar! Great representation for all doodles!
Wow!  I spend a lot of time in Happy Valley, as my husband's elderly aunt lives there, and we look after her  frequently.  BTW, she loved meeting Melody!  I am so thankful this turned out the way it did.  Good boy, Oscar!
Way to go Oscar!! I am totally impressed. This will make me think twice when my doodle, Sammi, starts into one of his barking frenzies (though Sammi's barking usually signals his spotting of yet another squirrel).
Way to go Oscar! But they should have had his picture in the article!! He IS the hero after all!!
