Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Dewey went from 11 pounds at 11.5 weeks to 21 pounds at 15 weeks. We had noticed he lost his puppy face last week but we were only expecting him to come in around 15 pounds based on what I'd read in earlier comments about growing size. Yowza! We were told he'll be a medium labradoodle but now we're wondering. Anyone else have this crazy amount of growth in such a short period? His dad was a mini and his mom was full size so the vet said he could turn out any size (I'm hoping for big ;-) Here he is after getting his third set of shots today, poor guy.

Wow, that is a lot of meat, Emily! We've been feeding Dewey 1 cup 3x a day but sometimes he doesn't finish it all so I know I'm not overfeeding him!
Danielle- always check what the feeding guide on the bag of whatever food you feed says about amount of food and use the "rib test" to guide your feeding amounts, not necessarily what the vet says about amounts, especially if your vet doesn't know about the food you are feeding. When Ragley was in for her 13 week shots, my vet asked me how much food she ate per day and then proceeded to tell me I probably needed to increase her feeding starting the next week. I don't remember the exact number of cups she randomly spit out at me, but it was almost double what she was eating at the time (of Orijen puppy) and I would have made Ragley seriously sick and obese if I had actually done that. Fortunately I was armed with Food Group knowledge so I just smiled politely and completely ignored the advice. Most vets know nothing about the high quality foods and how the calorie density is different.
Malenie, sounds like a nice size!
Kate at 17 weeks had really big paws but her growth has slowed down at 20 inches and 35 lbs. She was growing .75 to .9 inches a week. Her mom a lab and dad standard. I'm kind of hoping for small big dog. Dewey is so cute....
Thanks, Susan! Everyone comments lately about how big his paws are but I think it's mostly fur at this point!
He's adorable :) Just want to add that that formula of doubling the weight at 16 weeks and adding another 5-10 lbs. is not true for smaller dogs. At least you can't count on it. Josie topped out at 13 lbs. at 7 months. When we got her at 12 weeks, she was 7 lbs. She didn't even double her weight from that point.
You really have to go by the size of the parents. In our case, her mom was 12 lbs. and her dad was 22 lbs. We wanted small, so, for us, she is perfect.
True about that weight chart pounds thingy LOL
Love that nose :)
She's SO cute! Love those eyes!
I LOVE LOVE Dewey's coloring, especially his little white paws!!! My Sophie is still packing on the weight, she is now 8 months and 60 pounds (but she is half Bernese Mt dog), Daisy, my golden doodle is a slim gal of 47 lbs (and she is 2 yrs old) they seem to eat the same amount of food. The vet says there is no telling how much she will eventually weigh, she said it could literally be up to 100 lbs , YES a 100 lbs, I would like her to stop around 70 or so, I guess we shall see :-)
