I would just like to know the average time for potty training.
Abby is now almost 13 weeks, she goes on command outside,
I crate train her and take her out about every hour to 45 minutes.
She is tethered, or crated and I let her run free for a little while.
But thats when she has accidents.
Is she average? How long did it take you to potty train?
She is a mini medium doodle.
Thanks
All pups are different, but Beckett had his last accident in the house in the beginning of July, which surprised me. He was only 3 months old! I think that's early! We didn't assume he was completely housebroken then though. But it was great not to have to watch him like a hawk by the end of July. That's when we felt comfortable that he wouldn't have an accident inside. We also trained him to ring the bells when he needed to go out. I don't know if that helped his training but it sure seemed to. I'm not sure what the average age is. Abby sounds like she's on her way.
Hi Marion. Our Wrigley is now almost 15 weeks old and we haven't had an accident in 11 - 12 days. We're very encouraged! We still watch her pretty closely, but she pretty much has free reign of the small main living area of the house unless we're going to be gone. We need to work on the potty bell training again. Just when she was getting the hang of it we ended up getting several days of rain (which means us taking her out/in a different door). Anyway, once the Ike rains leave us we'll start working with the bells again.

My puppy is 12 weeks old. She always has freedom in my house, but it is a one bedroom apartment. She really can't escape. She lets me know when she needs to go out by standing next to the door and whines. She does still have accidents a few times but that is normal. It isn't until 4 months that puppies have control of their bladder muscles. So a few accidents aren't bad. My puppy has about 4 accidents a week, but it used to be once a day, so we are making progress.
It takes pups some time to gain full control of their bladder for long periods. You're ahead of where Rosco was at that age. He'd go every 15-20 minutes if I took him out that often! He wasn't done till somewhere between 7-10 months--but he was a bit oblivious to it all and it wasn't until 10 months I realized HOW BADLY he needed the bells to tell us.
Well, thank you. It's all helping me,I needed to hear, how other puppies are doing, so I know, that Abby is doing fine.
And I guess, she is doing fine.No accidents at all today. They do trick you sometimes. They whine at the door, and all they want to do is play outside. Which is fine ,too.
The rain was just so bad,at first, Abby hated it, but later she actually wanted to play in the rain and puddles.
Emma is now 15 weeks old (where did the time go??). She is very good about letting us know she has to go potty when we have her confined in the kitchen/family room. My question, though, is: we have a new den upstairs in our house and the other night brought her up there. Of course, she went into the hall and peed. I think that she was confused and didn't really know how to tell us she needed to go out (she's not yet going up and down the stairs). Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking that maybe I should close the door in whichever room we're in upstairs and hang bells on the door - maybe she'll surprise us and know to ring the bells to go potty, though I wonder if she's so conditioned to doing that only in the gated kitchen!
Abby did the same, she is not allowed downstairs yet, but she ran after me so fast, and straight to the carpet and peed, and I just took her out to pee.
Sometimes I believe they do this on purpose.Like she wanted to make fun of me, she looked so mischievous !
That why I was asking this question. They must want to go outside, and how long that takes.I guess it is just like with children.
Ah, the very first time Giada went downsairs to our finished basement, she peed also......and I had also just taken her out. I think the movement must push on the bladder!?
I just have to update (& I'll let y'all know if I jinx us!), but we've been accident free for 16 days now! Yay! The light at the end of the tunnel is getting nice and bright now!
