Pattie Cake is crated at night next to my bed. Every two or three hours during the night she whines. How do you tell the difference between a full bladder and I'm just lonely. When she does this, sometimes I place my fingers in her crate and talk to her, and sometimes I let her out and she always pees. Thanks for your thoughts.

yup, I sure would set an alarm for half way through. Every few days set it 15 min. later eventually he will be sleeping in again. I know you hate to brake the sleep, but he is now learning it is ok to pee in the crate, and that is a BAD habbit. GL:)
The general rule for the first year of a puppy's life is that they should be able to hold their bladder one hour for each month of their age...For example a 4 month old pup should be good for 4 hours a 5 month old for 5 etc.
