Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My wife and I just got our goldendoodle puppy this past Monday on her 8 week birthday. She is adorable and sweet, not overly hyper...active but calm. We've only had her for a few days; she still wanders around the house exploring and when she gets tired she lays down in the bathroom or kitchen, I think because of the cool ceramic tile. She also loves laying next to air-vents for the cool air!

Anyway, when she is tired we like to "try" to get her to lay in the living room beside us, but she doesn't really like to be held or snuggled when she sleeps. Is this normal?

I get the impression that other doodles love to be around people and snuggled. Is this a puppy thing or maybe just the particular personallity of our doodle?

Ha! This exactly how our Giada was, and she will cuddle a bit now! My husband's theory is that they are growing so fast at this young age, and their matalism is high speed also that they just get over heated easily. My Shih-tzu was the same way.

This too will pass, and we will get our cuddles in :)
Hi R&S,

When Rosco was a pup he was VERY much like this. I kind of felt disappointed because it seemed so many other doodles were cuddly and loved to snuggle. He was a bit more independent! I recall once early on when I put a towel on the couch and put him up there to snuggle with me while I napped. Within 30 seconds he had wiggled away and gone to a far part of the living room to lay on the cold wood floor. :-(

However NOW he is THE MOST cuddly dog of all three of our dogs. He loves to be close, follows me around, loves to get head massages, belly rubs and to snuggle. It was a complete turnaround that occurred little by little as he matured and we bonded via training and time together.

So there is hope!
Paddington came to us when he was 4 months so he was pretty snuggly but you know puppies attention spans are short so maybe even in sleep they just want to do or lay somewhere different. I will say that Paddington does LOVE the hardwoods and ceramic tile best..and my lap is just too warm, or the kids bed, he'll lay up there and read books with us at night but if he gets too warm he jumps down and heads for the bathroom floor :0)
Congratulations on your new puppy!

I wish this was our "problem" when we brought home our 8 week old puppy. All Puddles wanted to do was bite us LOL! They grow really fast and most everything is a stage : ) Just when you think you know your puppy's personality, they change! Before you know it, she will be following you around EVERYWHERE and wanting snuggle attention all the time!
Hi glad to hear that your doodle likes the air vents too so does ours she found them yesterday, and will just lay their, but we noticed the same about snuggly he was fine when we got him home and he will snuggle just for awhile when he wakes up then he has to play, when he is tired leave him alone,

OKay how big do these guys really get????
It was my impression too, that I had the only non-snuggle puppy out there, but I think it does come more with maturity. Jezzy was only snuggly the first few days and now is more self confident and does her own thing. She is 4 months and does a good enough job of staying with me that I can take her outside without the leash and have hardly ever had to chase her down. The nipping though, is always there. She interacts, but with teeth. :-) My boys really thought that we would bring home this live stuffed animal thing that would constantly be waiting to snuggle, kiss and love and they have been a little confused and disappointed too. You're not alone!!
