My little sweet Giada killed a baby Robin:( It had been around our yard all week, and we had already had several close calls. Today when we were playing fetch the baby bird came out of the bush Giada went near to retrieve her ball and before I could stop her it was too late...then about 4-5 adult bird started to attack her. This was horrible to watch!!! She is fine, but it is always hard to see your sweet baby (I have wittnessed this 3 time with our other dog) be a killer...you begin to look at them differently for a bit! :(
Awwww.....I'm so sorry you had to witness this. You know it's their natural instinct and Giada is just doing what comes naturally. I am sorry you had to see it, and I hope that Giada is ok after the birds attacked her! I once had a cat that one night left us a pile of dead bunnies on our doorstep, so sad, and she was so proud of herself! UGH!
Thanks! Yes, I know it is their instinct and I sure have also had my fill of pets doing this, but it is awful to see, that is when you realize they aren't your sweet inicent baby. my Beagle brought us baby bunnies too!
:-( So sad to see! It IS hard to believe a dog that is otherwise an angel and loving can really be a predator. I'm sure mine would do the same. Luckily so far all they've ever caught or tried to catch are: dead bird, duck leg, dead squirrel.
oooh I'm not a bird fan, so I have no attachment here, but I'm more feeling bad for Giada that the dern birds attacked her! How dare they! On the flip side, do you think Giada will attack another bird for fear of the big ones getting her?
oh and BTW Paddington got a toad in his mouth the first night home...I thought he killed it and left it for dead on our front walk, but when I went back the next day the toad was gone, I'm assuming another animal got it...but I'm not sure.
Yes, that is what really upset me too...it was so scarey! Although, the Robin is our State bird also, and very special here:( I hope she won't start attacking birds, because my husband wants to duck hunt with her, and attacking the bird instead of retrieving it is a nono!
