Buddy is a 4 month old goldendoodle puppy. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get him use to the beach and our pool. He does seem to like the water.
I think with the beach...the 'ol just do it applies =) Go in there yourself, toss a stick or fun toy into the ocean for him to chase. MOST likely he'll love it.
Has he ever shown interest in your pool? You can hold him and walk in a few inches at a time, stopping before he squirms too much and try again. Or coax him in with treats and praise. Maybe start with a kiddie pool?
We had to continually carry her in gently. After a while, she was jumping off the dock into the lake. We also have a beach by us just down the road that we go to often, now she goes right in there too.
Infact we pass the beach every time we take that route into the woods on our long walks when off leash she heads down toward the beach, then I have to say sorry baby not today ( I like my husband to be with me when I take her).....she will then sadly come in my direction:(
I would start small, showing him how much fun you and others are having in the water. Then, if he still doesn't go in, splash him lightly and toss toys in. Sometimes you should just plop in with them. Carrying him into the water should work too. (Our pup went right in, so we didn't really have many problems-sorry) Hope this helps a bit!
