This is our second day home and my 8 week old pup still is not eating. He will go over to food bowl and take a nibble but nothing really. We go to the vet today but wondering your thoughts. The breeder was feeding him solid gold. I am offering solid gold just not exact flavor (pet store said as long as it is the same brand it is fine). Any ideas??? He is drinking plenty and has pooped 3 times since his arrival.
When we first brought Guinness home, I actually had to feed him from my hand for the first few days. Have you tried that? I sat with him on the floor and took the kibble out and just fed it piece by piece. After a few days he was totally fine and eating from the bowl himself. I think he was just anxious....leaving their Mom and littermates is stressful. Good luck and congratulations on your new puppy! Keep us posted.....
We have had our little pup for 2 weeks now, and when she came home at 8 weeks old, she refused to eat. I also had to hand feed her for several days. My vet says that she won't starve herself, and when she's hungry she'll eat. As long as she's drinking water to stay hydrated in this heat, she should be ok for a couple days. I also tried feeding her as "treats". So we practiced her name and gave her a kibble for that, when she peed/pooped... she got a piece of kibble, etc. Don't worry too much... and good luck!!
I also hand fed Quincy for the first week or so when he came home until he started eating on his own. I also had to give him water from my hand, I would hold my hand over the bowl and scoop some water into my hand and he would drink that way. I didn't leave food out for him to graze on, just fed him on a regular schedule 3 times a day. There is still an occassional time now when he doesn't eat that I will still feed him from my hand or make a game of it by tossing a few peices for him to catch. I also find sometimes he will eat it if I just lay it on the floor instead of putting it in his food bowl.Quincy is now 18 mos old and doesn't eat if he is alone Good luck, I'm sure your puppy will be fine it's just an adjustment period for him.
Well that is good food, so that isn't the problem. I agree with others - I am sure he is fine. Try hand feeding him and sitting with him while he eats. Also try making a fun "trail" of food that leads to the bowl - maybe 8-10 pieces. Just try that. They need time to get adjusted :)
