Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

How's that for a title, lol?

My problem is our doodle's annoying pooping habit. Please bear with me... She'll squat, do her "main" work and then walk around dropping little tiny pieces of more "work" left and right. She's 4 months old. She has always pooped like this but lately, it's getting out of hand and super annoying as clean up is literally a pain in the rear end.

Any ideas? Do other dogs do this? Any way to stop it?

I tried standing in front of her so she can't go forward but, she'll just stop and then sniffs out a new spot to drop her teeny tiny morsels. If I keep her on a super shot leash she drops them all around me like a mine field.

Thank you,

Me too! The poopy travelers!
Rooney always pees first and then has to walk around some more to find the "correct spot" - this changes every day. Then he does his business all in one spot.  Quick and easy.
We're all actually lucky...our 9yo golden retriever has to do what we call the "circle dance" EVERY time he poos on our walks. He turns around first one way, then the other at least 25 times to get the exact spot and position!!! It's actually pretty annoying, especially if you want them to get it done!! But we still love him!!
I had a Golden Retriever who did the circle dance as well and guess what... my 3 month old Labradoodle puppy does the same dance!
I envy you that! Nice and fast clean up!

I would lay off anything but her kibble. Make sure she is eating a high quality food -- it will make her poop less. If you add anything, a teaspoon of canned pure pumpkin per meal can do wonders for texture. I think sometimes a dog travels when they poop because it gives them that extra "ooomph" to get the job completed. :-)

Here's a funny one....Simon is 19 months old, but since he came to live with us at 4 months, when he strikes the poop pose, he turns around and watches what's going on. How weird is that?!

LOL...he's interested in what it looks like too!!

Thanks Deborah!

She decided to skip dinner tonight, silly pup. And for lunch she finished her breakfast. Not much food in her belly today. I think she's waiting for a fried chicken.

Simon is pretty funny! I's good to be informed about one's output!

My puppy does this too and it is definitely annoying! Now that she's just about a year it doesn't seem to be as bad. I'm hoping it stops at some point because it is hard to find all the little pieces of poop when I'm cleaning up the yard. I tried staying in front of her too but she still finds a way! I'd love some ideas too!
When my pup did this, I blocked off an area in my back yard with a little fence. I kept him on a leash and took him to that area to go potty everytime I take him out. Lots easier to find in the area blocked off. I don't take him to that area anymore, and now he tends to pick the same spot for one week, and then the next week he picks a different spot. He does it all at one time now versus going around in a circles.

I thought I would update this thread :-)

It's been almost 2 weeks since I posted it. I took Misha off all human food. Everything. No more chicken broth in her dog food, no veggies or fruits which she really really loves. Just plain kibble. And believe it or not, it solved my problem! Her problem actually! Now she goes, makes her main pile, takes a step and makes her secondary pile. And she's done. No more dropping poop all over the yard! Yey!

Great!
