Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our Charlie passed away in July from IMHA.  We've meant to get a little sister for Charlie for a while, unfortunately he didn't get to meet her when he was alive.  Last week we welcomed baby Zoe (F1 standard Goldendoodle) into our home!  Though she'll never replace Charlie, she has really help mend our broken hearts.

The hardest part was actually not to compare her to Charlie.  We intentionally got a girl, standard and a lighter colour (so basically as different from Charlie as can be).  But I still kept on calling her "Charlie" and "good boy" by accident.  I've lived with a super well trained/behaved dog for the last few years, so it's also quite an adjustment to go from that to a puppy.   Regardless, she's such a joy, super affectionate and so smart!  We've had her for one week, and she's already learned 'sit', asking for permission before leaving the crate/play pen, asking to go out for potty.  She can already sleep soundly through the night and has taken to her potty training wonderfully.  We got her from the same breeder as Charlie, and they started working on her leashed walk and bit inhibition before she came home, so we've seen good progresses with those as well.  She's going to start her classes next week and I'm hoping maybe she'd like to do agility when she grows up.

She is adorable.  I know that it is hard, but having a puppy in the house can really help to mend a broken heart.  We brought AnnaBelle home only a couple months after loosing our Sophie.  AB is now 4 and every now and then we slip and call her Sophie.  However, the memories of Sophie now make me smile, rather than make me sad!  The other day I walked through the living room and all the sofa pillows were on the floor and I yelled to Mike "Sophie has been here".  She always pushed them off onto the floor.  Even if I put them right back, she would push them off again.  AB does a lot of things that remind us of Sophie even though they don't look a thing alike..  I hope that one day you can smile again when you think of your Charlie.

What a cutie baby Zoe is!  I also have a Zoey that is a year old.  I got her about 6 months after my beloved Lucky died.  At first I thought maybe I had gotten her too soon, but she helped me through that time.  I also said "he" a lot.  I hope you have a wonderful future with this precious dog.
