Hi doodle friends- I have been MIA for the past month or so.  Shame on me.  Life has been busy dealing with my son starting full day Kindergarten (sigh), and 2yr old daughter being the maniac (but oh so cute) that she is, and training/taking care of our soon to be 6 month old (has it been that long?) 58 lb (yep) puppy Barkley.

He has his neuter today.  Vet said to drop him off at 8am and then we can more than likely pick him up around 4.  What should I prepare for?  Anything you wish you would have known?

Thanks!!!

OH and YES I will post more pics Soon!

He might need a little extra TLC for a few days. I think it is an easier recovery for boys though (my experience was with a spayed doodle girl) Haven't had our Wally neutered yet. I can't imagine how the breeders have them neutered/spayed at 8 weeks old!!

Hi..wow..I admire you..young children and a puppy!  I have read that instead of a cone, you put a pair of boy underwear on the dog backwards so his tail sticks out the fly..this will keep him from licking..but you have to take them off for him to go potty.. so I don't know if that will work for you. just give him tlc like jeanine did.. hugs

Wow! Barkley is turning into quite the big boy!  I can't wait to see new pictures of him :-)  Since Hunter is a girl her situation was a little different but I never had to use a cone she never messed with her incision at all.  The vet told me that instead of a cone to put a shirt on her that covered it - I did for a day but she never seemed to notice so I took it off.  Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
Oh my! Barkley is really growing into those giant paws. Other than the dreaded cone, boys seem not to be bothered much by the traumatic experience.
Most vets send them home with a hard plastic cone. It does the job but can really hurt if he walks into you or the kids. I got a comfy cone. It still works but is soft.

We are home.  Forget to also mention he was having his hernia fixed.  Poor guy is depressed and is breaking my heart.  I can tell it bothers him to get up- though any time I change rooms he gets up and follows me.  Oh well- guess I just need to sink into my couch with a good book and sit there all night long.... if only the kids would cooperate :)

He has sutures and will need them removed in two weeks.  Vet put him on pain killers and antibiotics which we are to start tomorrow.  My little (ok big) doggy is sleepy- makes me sad.  No cone, tried to lick incisions once and I told him to stop, so he did.  Hopefully he'll be back to his ol self tomorrow

Welcome back!  No advice to offer, but hope Barkley recovers quickly!

Wishing him a quick recovery! Teddy was neutered at the end of July when he was 8 months old. He was sleepy the first day, and woke up barking at 4:30 am, but after that he was back to normal! On about the 4th day in the cone he tried to chew it off and got it stuck halfway off in his mouth. We bought him an inflatable thing that goes around his neck and he liked it much better. He still couldn't lick his incision, and it was a lot smaller. We made Teddy wait 10 days before really going on long walks, about 2 weeks before playing with other dogs and 3 weeks for the dog park. It took about 3 weeks for the stitches to completely dissolve.
