Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
we are bringing our mini Goldendoodle home next week! We have a crate and I was wondering what is the best bedding to put in it for them to sleep on without chewing to shreds and ingesting things they shouldn’t. If there is already a thread let me know!
thanks

It partly depends on whether they will be in there just for nighttime or whether they will also be in there while you are out.
For Riley (and we did the same for Luna) for her night time crate we just put a blanket in there folded up. It's adjustable since you can just fold it differently as the pup grows and you give them more space in the crate. They're also less likely to ingest parts of it since beds with stuffing tend to be easier to rip apart. A bonus is you likely already have a suitable small blanket in your house and they are easy to wash - just toss in the washer/dryer.
Those crate beds/pads seem fine too but if you have something at home already then I wouldn't bother buying an actual crate bed. The crate itself is expensive enough as it is! Riley seems plenty comfy on her fuzzy blanket :)
For her "away" playpen/area (a gated off area of a tiled room) she just has a towel in there to sleep on, a few pee pads, a water bowl and some safer toys (kongs). It's hard for her to destroy the towel and if she did rip it she would only get small pieces at a time. Much safer in my opinion than an actual "bed". Like the crate setup easy clean up since I can just toss the towel in the wash each day or use a different towel. We have a set of "doggie towels" that are big beach towels for doggie uses.
Thanks! That is a great idea!i know we have some old blankets and towels that we can repurpose!
When Ned was a puppy we found a very thin crate mat to put into the crate. For any dogs since then we have just used a bathmat.
I never thought of a bath,at! That is another great idea and washable as well. I may even have some old ones in my closet!
The Oder the better!
I thought of using a bath mat but Riley would definitely chew the fuzzy type ones with the "carpet" texture to shreds... and memory foam ones can be tricky to clean since they don't hold up well in the dryer.
It depends on how naughty your doodle is ;) Riley is a bit of a destructo-dog since she has some separation anxiety.
J. Not a bathroom rug. A bath mat in the States is more a heavier weight bath towel that is used to stand on when drying off. You are right- fuzzy would never work.
Ohhh ok, that makes sense.
I was picturing something like this which is what we use to step on after the shower (and the 2nd one is a memory foam one which might work better but can't go in the dryer). We have those towel type ones too but everyone just calls all three bath mats :p
:-)
