Do any of your doods do this?

At night, while we are all relaxing on the couch, Charlie often falls asleep tucked away in a corner somewhere. If he's out cold and I go to wake him up for bed, he starts growling at me and will actually snap at me. He's bitten me once. He ONLY ever acts like that when I wake him up, and I don't ever startle him.. I do it very gently. Even if I'm just petting him and hes really really tired, he freaks.

Thoughts/suggestions?

My trainer told me he is growling and snapping because he is protecting his "den". He generally falls asleep under tables so he feels this is his territory. However even when he falls asleep on the floor, he sometimes growl if I wake him. This doesn't occur every time, only if he is very very tired. He never does this with anything else or any other situation, just when he's very exhausted

I had forgotten about this thread, until I just read a similar one in the Forum.  I see, the question of how old is the pup here we are talking about has not been answered.  My question was leading up to has he been neutered yet.  And of course, training is a must.

Take a look at this thread, and maybe follow it along. http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/help-aggression-starting-up

Thanks for the thread suggestion. He is 5 months and has not been neutered!
