Finley got neutered this week. He's been pretty pathetic but I think he's finally today feeling better. I think the worst part is this cone! He hates it and I hate it! I think we can hopefully ditch it come Tuesday (fingers crossed, we have our recheck with the vet). He's on anti inflamatories and either those have been making him sleepy or he just doesn't feel well (maybe a combination of both) but he's been pretty lethargic. I'm hoping he starts to perk up once he gets off these meds (today is the last day). Even though its been a nice break from "puppy crazy", I'm ready for my crazy hyper puppy back!

If you are with him, watching him, you can take the cone off. Many of us have used little boy's underwear put on so the tail comes out the fly. It keeps them from licking if they aren't just going crazy to get at it. I used a baby onsie on Owen when he had a hot spot under his front leg as a pup.

Great idea, thank you Bonnie! And I love the "automatic sprinkler" onsie!!!
You can put the cone on at bed time and if you leave the house, but the undies might be good enough for times you can watch. They were for both our guys. Good luck.
Ahhhhh mine was like a crazy phsyco doodle! Look at my pic. He almost knocked over a table trying to get it off lol

OMD, that picture is hilarious.

Priceless!

Hahaha! Love it!

Cute cone picture!  However, I know what you are going through and we hated it too.  Traz had to wear the cone as he recovered from his bloat/twisted stomach surgery.  It did keep him away from the staples and sutures, but it drove us crazy because he would jammed the cone into us when he wanted us to pet him.  It was quite annoying.  Thank goodness that phase is over.  I posted a picture of Traz with his cone on my page.  It actually framed up his face nicely...cute, cone and all :-)

Lol Karen, I know what you mean!! I have bruises all up my calves from him running into me with this cone and when he wakes me up in the morning I am met with a cone swooshing in and off my face! I got some boys undies as everyone suggested from my nephew this afternoon...on my way home to give it a try out! Fingers crossed it works and he does not try and get the stitches through the undies!

My dogs haven't ever chewed their neutering stitches so we haven't had to resort to cones.  Our foster, on the other hand, chewed the stitches right out (getting the site infected)- even while wearing the cone.

Oh my Nancy! That takes some strong determination and a lot of skill! I have heard from several friends that golden retrievers get into a lot of mischief and are strong willed...I've always had cocker spaniels so the doodle personality is new to me. I am so neurotic about everything with Finn because I keep waiting for my "golden horror story"! ;0/

Just checking to hear how Finley did today. I hope he is healing quickly and doing well.
