Cones, yuck!

Finley got neutered this week. He's been pretty pathetic but I think he's finally today feeling better. I think the worst part is this cone! He hates it and I hate it! I think we can hopefully ditch it come Tuesday (fingers crossed, we have our recheck with the vet). He's on anti inflamatories and either those have been making him sleepy or he just doesn't feel well (maybe a combination of both) but he's been pretty lethargic. I'm hoping he starts to perk up once he gets off these meds (today is the last day). Even though its been a nice break from "puppy crazy", I'm ready for my crazy hyper puppy back!

Thanks Bonnie! We tried the boys undies trick this evening...it lasted about five minutes. :(. He is actually much more concerned with where his IV went than his incision but he wouldn't stop chewing on it so I put the cone back on...but not before I snapped a couple cute pics. :0). We go to the vet tomorrow to hopefully get clearance that all is heeled (it's seven days tomorrow) and that he can take this cone OFF! I'll let y'all know! Thanks again for checking in on him!!!

Oh and Bonnie, he has definitely gotten his energy back now that he's off his medication...he was a crazy man tonight...running non stop throughout the house after my older dog. He is now quietly passed out next to me, exhausted!

Monty Moose will be facing this fate come Thursday and we already have a pair of underwear ready.   Not looking forward to this.  I remember going through this experience with fosters that I used have many years ago, when working with TVGRR, but they were all young.  We are certainly hoping Monty heals quickly!!

We went yesterday to get his incision checked and the vet said all looked good and took off the come. We started talking about something else and before I knew it Finley was bleeding. The vet says its 99% healed so it was ok but he couldn't keep licking it or it would get infected, so back on the cone went until its completely healed/gone. Argh! Sigh. ;(

Just when you thought you were out of the woods!!  Hope Finley is feeling better today.  Wish we were at the end of our recovery like Finley, but so far it is not too bad.  Time will tell.

So glad to hear everything went well yesterday...that's the scary part...the rest of it is just the healing process. Hopefully his goes MUCH faster than ours! I think we are finally at a point where he will wear boys undies and leave the incision alone, mostly. Remember that trick if Monty is chill about his incision. Put his tail through the front opening...it covers the incision and allows you to get rid of the cone!

I feel your pain! Griffin got neutered last Thursday and I think we hate the cone even more than he does :-/  But even with the cone he still keeps trying to lick the site so I know he needs it on still.  As soon as he stops that I can't wait to take it off!  At least he's mostly figured out how to get at his food/water/toys w/o too much help now.
