Our doodle Henry is 6 months old , we got him from a breeder about 8 weeks. From the first week we had him he wanted to dig whenever we took him to our yard to use the bathroom. We dont allow him access to the yard because we dont want him covered in dirt. Our yard isnt dirty but has a small area maybe 18X18 ft that is grass covered and he will find a spot to dig pronto if given the opportunity! In mere seconds those huge paws transform into a backhoe and he can easily dig a hole 1-2 ft deep. He gets dirt all over his body and face, loving every second of it..... I would love to be able to go in the yard and not have to worry about him digging and let him go back there without a leash. I have been trying lately and when he walks over to the area he likes to dig I stop him immediately and correct him. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas :) thanks Paul.

Our pup did this but eventually grew out of it. We used to sprinkle the area with cayenne pepper to deter her. Seemed to work but her holes were not nearly as big. Good luck!
lol thanks we will give that a try ;)
Same with ours. We opted out of the electric fence because we can't trust him. A trainer told us that he does it for either relief from the heat, smells prey under the ground like grubs, or just prone to digging. He does dig around places where we have dead spots in the grass (grubs) and around our deck skirting which leads me to believe he is going after prey. She said to try a kiddie pool and fill it with sand and his toys.
Ours started this out of the blue 2 weeks ago. She is 4 months. I read somewhere that if you put their dog poop in the hole and cover it up, when they dig there again, they will quit because they don't like that. It seems to have worked for now. Good luck,, I know that is frustrating and dirty!
