Omg...Gracie would stay outside forever if I would let her.  She likes to go outside and sleep on the porch even when it is like 5 degrees out.  I literally have to make her come in.  Gracie has a very thick coat so I realize she might want to cool off after playing but gosh she loves the cold.  I have turned the heat down in the house as much as possible without the rest of us freezing. lol.  Anyone else have this with their doodle?  I know she will have to have a short cut for the summer for sure.

Otis will stay outside forever and will even sit infront of a fan! When I got him my breeder also said he has an amazing wavy to curly coat that is perfect for the current North East winters (I live in NYC). Most dogs I have had throughout my life didn't get cold as long as they had a thick plush beautiful coat that was cared for properly.
It does seem the same to me that they don't seem to get cold outside. In fact I think my pup likes it too. So much so that I worry how he'll handle the heat of summertime
Finn is the same. He lays and rolls in the snow, burrowing in it. He'd stay out forever if I let him. The colder & wetter the better. Mommy does not hold that same opinion.

Max is the same, he loves the cold and will often just sit on the snowbank that's by our patio looking over his backyard kingdom lol

This makes me happy as I am about to move to Omaha from Phoenix. At least I know now Callie should like it :)

Funny! I thought I was the only crazy person who turns down the heat and puts on extra clothes - all for the comfort of my doodle.  Yarrow loves it out in the cold.  I also worry about her when I think it's too cold for her to be out there.  I have to offer her something of value to get her to come inside. She's loving the polar vortex.  I wonder if her coat will also insulate her from the heat in the summer.

The coat definitely insulates them! I have a 14 year old Golden Retreiver as well and we have to shave him down for health reasons, and he could no longer deal with heat and cold like my 4 year old Golden was able to. The Golden sheds their winter coat for a summer coat, but it helps them for summer/winter months. It is amazing. Don't fully shave the dog for the summer - their coats are also for protection from the sun and other things.

I know some breeds have a coat that insulates them like Styrofoam.  I'd still make sure she stayed in the shade on hot days.  I just wonder if she will be cooler with or without her coat.  I guess we'll have to experiment.

My pup hates the cold. He walks right back to the door once he finishes his business. . But it's been EXTREMELY cold so I don't blame him. I have to be creative with indoor activities. Can't wait for summmmmerrr. Or even temperatures above 0.

Yarrow's spay was two weeks ago today.  We had a good romp out on the trails this morning.  Still completely avoiding encounters with other dogs - there are enough alternative trails to take a detour when I can see which way someone else is going.  I don't want her rough-housing just yet.

But now that the stitches are all healed I let her lay out in the snow.  I can't understand why she like to lay her shaved, naked belly on the cold snow.  It makes ME uncomfortable.

Anyway, temperature's swinging over to the plus side now. Yaaay!

Makes me shiver just thinking about it!  Glad to hear Yarrow is on the road to healing!

i have wondered this question too!  our dood loves being out there in the cold!  Then add the SNOW factor and he goes insane, rolling and jumping in the piles.  Even with all the snow sticking to his hair, he keeps romping.  I feared hypothermia, so would limit snow time as he becomes a walking ice dog.  we keep our heat the same 68-70 degrees but notice he likes cotton quilts to lay on instead of the polyester blankets. He has made winter more enjoyable but am looking forward to spring weather!!
