Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We're thinking of getting a second doodle and met a breeder earlier today who has F2 Goldendoodle pups. They are adorable! We're just wondering if anyone has an F2 and what it's typical behavior is like. Since it's more poodle, does it have more of the poodle behavior? Bo is an F1b. Wondering if they'll get along, especially with the age difference? Bo is 2yrs old and big lol.

Thanks!

Neither does Whidbey!  (also an F2!)  She is TOTALLY smart!

I think Bo is potentially more poodle than an F2...here are the definitions:

"F2 = F1 Goldendoodle and F1 Goldendoodle cross. With this combination you get the same percentage of Golden and Poodle mix as you would with an F1 Goldendoodle"

"F1-B = 25% Golden Retriever and 75% Poodle (F1 Goldendoodle and Poodle cross). This is Goldendoodle bred back to Poodle"

Yup,that is my understanding too.

We do!  Whidbey is an F2 and is absolutely adorable and wonderful!  We couldn't be any more blessed!

Bailey is an F2 and he gets along with all dogs and people.  He is extremely smart and I would definitely get another one.

We have an F2 as well.  She is a cutie!  She loves people almost more then dogs.  I don't think you'll have any problems.

I just read this article online concerning the various generations of puppies

Investing in an F2b/multi-generation puppy means that you can count on these desirable goldendoodle characteristics to shine through in your pet for years to come.  Because it is a multi-generation pup, we can predict with more certainty what the puppies will look like, what their temperament will be, and that they will be healthy and smart.  And, we can be surer that their coats will be friendlier to families with mild-moderate allergies than some other goldendoodles.

  • Flat-coated F1 doodle

An F1 goldendoodle, for example, is not as likely to give you the perfect doodle coat and personality you are after.  F1 doodles are not necessarily 50% golden retriever and 50% standard poodle; which genes get passed down is determined by chance.  So, an F1 doodle could have a flat, retriever-like coat that sheds, or a poodle-like coat (same principle applies to personality/temperament).

  • F1b goldendoodles are friendlier to families with allergies than F1 doodles because genetically, they are more poodle than golden retriever. However, in some cases, you end up with a puppy that is mistaken for a poodle by their temperament, coat type, or both.  Further, if the breeder is not prudent and thorough in researching the genetic history, it may be more prone to genetic weaknesses of the poodle.
  • Since genetic expression is random, even an F2/multi-generation pup (F1 x F1) does not necessarily produce the ideal doodle.  The puppy could get mostly golden retriever genes from its F1 mother as well as its F1 father, resulting in a flat-coated goldendoodle similar the one pictured above.  This applies to temperament, coat type, health/genetic defects, or all of the above.

For the best chance of owning a goldendoodle with everything you are looking for — that classic goldendoodle look; an allergy-friendly, very low- or non-shedding coat; and the character traits and intelligence so desired in a goldendoodle, an F2b/multi-generation pup is your best, most reliable option.

Good luck in your search for the new addition to your family.

Lily is an F2 as well.  Both her parents were Goldendoodles.  She is very smart, very active and, of course, adorable.  She's very gentle with my young kids and takes all their "abuse" with no complaints.  She loves everyone and every dog she's met.  She sheds very, very mildly, so little that I barely notice it unless I'm brushing her.

We have 8 months F1B. We are looking for a new good home for him. Please let us know if you are interested.

Please contact Doodle Rescue Collective as suggested to you on May 21 by Colleen.  If you really want to re-home your dog, DRC will carefully place him in a loving home.  Anything less isn't fair to your dog.

From what you are describing, your puppy is exhibiting typical puppy behavior.  Given time & training, he will surprise you.
