We finally were able to pick Jinx up this past Friday! He took his first car ride (2 hours) like a champ and we didn't even have to stop for him to use the restroom because he slept the majority of the ride! When we got home we played outside with him and we learned that he likes to take the leash and walk himself! Of course we have to teach him he is not in charge of the walk but I think he is going to be the kind of dog that goes and grabs his leash when he wants to walk (someday that is).
First night was amazing! He slept in the bed with my husband and I and he loved it. He didn't whimper or whine and I woke up every 2 hours and took him potty and then back up we went and he fell asleep fast! Last night however, the poor guy couldn't get comfortable so he was moving around a lot and I took him out more often because he drank A LOT of water during the day! (I picked it up after 9)
As far as potty training goes he is doing pretty good! He is only 7 weeks old and I have to keep reminding myself of that when he starts to squat and I have to grab him! I take him out every hour or whenever he starts to wonder. We are trying the whole bell training process, so fingers crossed there! He does get a little rowdy when he goes outside but after a couple of "go potties" he normally does his business...today though he is trying to test his limits!
With all of that being said Jinx does have an umbilical hernia that I discovered yesterday! :( It doesn't seem to hurt him at all ( he plays hard and eats and drinks normally) and it is very small but I am so worried about him hitting himself there when he plays! I know that the common proceeder is that it will get fixed when he gets neutered but has anyone had trouble with it between then and now!? We go to the vet today but as a first time puppy parent I am a nervous wreak!
Sorry for the long post just wanted to introduce Jinx and tell our experience!

Congrats on Jinx, I'm sure you are in love already as I was the first day I met Madiba. She had the same umbilical hernia and we did have it fixed when she was neutered, we had her fixed early, at 6 months. Her's was protruding from her belly and she has played rough and been at the dog park as soon as she had all of her shots. No problems, don't worry, Jinx will be fine. Best to take of the fixing and hernia on the younger side so the hernia doesn't get bigger, as it can. We had no problems, no extra down time for recovery even though madiba had a larger incision than normal and no problems since.
Thanks you guys this really helps calm me down! You can read all the medical board but it helps to here from actual people that have had it corrected! I'm glad to here it shouldn't bother him because he looovesss to play!!
Jace had the same hernia and he was just fine. We had it fixed when we had him fixed at 7 mths old. When I asked about it the vet said as they gain weight it will become a problem and a little more difficult to fix. Whereas when they are young it's done at one time and no one is the wiser. Good luck!
