Hello Doodlers!
Rosie is almost 8 months old. So far, she has been a sweetheart, albeit a goofy one who has yet to meet a a person or dog she doesn't love. She is generous with puppy kisses and loves her belly rubs.
We've been going an off-leash park several times a week since she was 4-5 months old. For a puppy, she is reliable off-leash with good recall.
However, when we go on leashed walks around the neighborhood it is SLOOOOOOOOW going. She likes to poke around, smell and investigate EVERYTHING. Other times, she'll plop down on a patch of soft grass and just roll around. It's all very cute, but I would like to get her to a point where we can cover some ground or even jog (when she's a bit older). We practice "heel"and "leave it" and "go find" to get her moving along, but I'm wondering if it might help to hire a dog walker who specialize in pack walks (on leash) so that she can learn by example.
I just want to get some thoughts on this. Has anyone used a "pack" dog walker? What was your experience like, pros/cons? Thanks again!!!!
Just for fun, here is a picture of her after paddling around on water...

When walking our last dog I didn't give him a chance to lollygag. If he started sniffing and I wanted to walk I would start to run a little bit [ as much as an old lady can ] and that would snap him out of his reverie and redirect his energy. I want to do some serious walking. At the end of the walk I let him sniff but during the walk everytime he slowed I sped up and he finally ot the idea that this was a serious walk.
I have a new puppy on the way so we will see how this works with him.
Kristine, thanks for the tip! I tried it with Rosie this morning and it seemed to help. I think subconsciously I try not to "pull" her as sometimes she will hunker down and spread out, making it impossible to move. In any case, I think we're going to have to practice "serious walking" like anything else : )
The odd thing is that she is much better off leash and has no problem running or walking with me...go figure!
Rosie is sooo cute!! Seeing her makes me even more anxious for our puppy. I hope it looks just like Rosie.
Oh, thank you! How exciting...a new puppy. I'll look forward to seeing a picture : )
